I doubt it'll it affect anything any more than a camera would mounted on the outside of your windshield. If I were to get one I'd go with Podi, but AZ no front plate laws are ftw

Lol I think he's talking about an aluminum skid plate that replaces the plastic belly pan.

I recently had a successful group buy with Evolution Import's Thor skid plate resulting in 76 people paid. I managed to get everyone a 30% discount off list price which came out to $174.30 per skid plate.

Don't mean to threadjack, but while were on the topic of dealing with scraping on the bottom of cars, to leave my parking garage I have to go over a speed bump with retractable spike that the wheels push down. But as soon as the wheels get over the spikes come back up and get pushed down/drag on something in the center of my car. What is this low point?? And can it take a scratching?
mr shickadance
02-28-2011, 05:14 PM
ummm your flex section of yuor down pipe could be taking a beating right now....other then that its mostly the frame/subframe that speedbumps like to hit on my car....sounds nasty but all its doing is scraping
NorcalPB
02-28-2011, 05:17 PM
It's not even rough when it happens, it's like a twig being under the car only hitting on certain points based on how fast I'm going. But spikes are more likely to scratch than a twig
Mike@Addict
02-28-2011, 05:17 PM
that sucks. proly not doing much but im so anal about my car id complain to management and perhaps ask for "compensation" ;)
really i wud. what if someone parking in that garage had a lambo or ferrari? they definitely wudnt let that fly

At this point I'm just glad I drive tiptronic, cuz you gotta go off super slow and with a manual I could see the possibility of rolling backwards, and if that happens you are so f'd. There's actually a plethora of lowered cars in my garage. Every now and again I see these slammed 350z's scrape the entire length of their car and just go BAHHHHHHHH and blast down the street like nothing happened. Makes me LOL every time.

I got the evolution import one from the recent group buy, great for winter time, no more packed up snow ripping off the plastic oem belly pan.

I have the Panzer one from Dieselgeek.
It's good. They all do the same shit.
I just went with the Panzer because it "bolts on better" from what people said in the Canada group buy.

If they weren't so damn expensive (I has no monies) I would def have gotten one a while ago. I've had no skid plate for about 2 or 3 years lol. But if you were thinking of getting a new one from Audi then I'd def suggest going with a metal aftermarket one since the price isn't too different.

Not sure about the evolution thor but my panzer skid plate required some modification to fit as my front sway bars are beefy.

how difficult are these skid plates to install? could I install them with simple tools and a couple wheel ramps?
mr shickadance
02-28-2011, 08:10 PM
yup very easy install....if you can take off your old plastic one, you can put these metal ones on

Hmm... interesting. This would be my first "mod" to my week-old car. I do live in NH, and frost heaves are everywhere. This couldn't hurt, especially if I lower it anytime soon. Good thread, thanks.

Same here ,mine got torn off by a chunk of ice a few months back.. Any chance we can get another group buy going if enough interest is there?

It was 30% off because there were 76 people involved in that particular group buy. The original agreement was 20% off for a minimum of 30 people and 25% off for a minimum of 40 people. The group buy exceeded the expected number of people so Evolution Import increased it to 30% off list price.
IF enough interest is there, sure!

You have a valid point, but without ad revenue, the forum would be shit due to lack of maintenance. It's also not fare to paying advertisers.

Have the same exact scenario at work and have recently noticed rubbing. (think that when I took my car to get inspected recently the guy had a field day in my car and knocked out the belly pan [mad] . Looking for reinforcement now so definitely interested in a group buy.)
