Why cant we build any sedan/coupe that even comes close to the m3?

Why cant audi build a car that doesn't understeer and handles as well as 3-series?
-now obviously audi handles better in winter but thats not what were talking about here.

Is it possible they didnt have drive select in the right position?

I just find it a bit annoying that bmw fans can brag about the m3 and there is nothing we can say about it.

Thats my rant for the day.

Like Clarkson said during the C63, RS4, M3 episode. BMW builds small fast sedans. It's what they do. It's in their blood.

No surprise there, I've yet to read a single positive professional review of the RS5. An R8 would do well against an M3 but it costs twice as much.

Wow, you make it sound like you might as well have a Kia Forte instead of a RS5....... I'd say even in that video, the RS5 was more than a close competitor. Like Clarkson said "It's what they do. It's in their blood." Just like rallying and AWD is in Audi's blood. How would the two fair on the back roads on dirt and sand, with some rain thrown in, or driving throw a winter landscape. Yes I know you said
-now obviously audi handles better in winter but thats not what were talking about here.
but why slight Audi for being able to perform better in their area of expertise?

But in all honesty, does it matter that much that the M3 gets around a track faster?!? I'd venture, that for the vast majority that own either, they won't be tracking them or racing their brand rival. So in the case of track driving BMW wins bragging rights.............................. Why should that stop you from getting an RS5 if you can afford one.

I don't think it's a question of "Why can't they" at all...I think it's a question of "Why don't they". Audi is perfectly capable of building a car that competes with the M3, they just don't. Audi has all the technology\engineering know-how to do so, they just refuse to use it. I think the B8 (in an RS form) would have a fighting chance if Audi went after that 3.0T with a vengeance. If you look up the numbers on a tuned B8 S4, you will see that it could be done. I don't know where everyone's getting this "RS5 vs. M3" shit from. They're not even in the same class. The A5\S5\RS5 chassis is a Grand Touring car. That's not a car you put up against an M3 to measure it's worth (all the bad reviews of it aside). I've driven the new V8 M3 and I will tell you that, no doubt, it's a badass car, but given the choice, for the money, I would buy a B8 S4 fully loaded, and tune the shit out of it.

I can't understand why there is this BMW/Audi rival. Audi is more 'practicality' and can handle what ever road conditions are your way. BMW is at the very least much much more oriented towards track/sport driving in good conditions. I personally believe that a BMW M3 is a much better sports car in the sense that it is a great platform for speed (rwd, hi-revving high out-put motors, lighter weight than our beloved audi).
BMW's are great cars, but I won't give up Audi's interiors, the reassurance of awd, and BOOST[:D]

An M3 will always ride rougher than an Audi sports car, but it is disappointing to see that even with the new engine placement and the sport differential the car is still very prone to understeer

I don't know. A tuned S4 can keep up with an M3 any day...

The M3 was slightly quicker on a track while driven by a professional driver.

The RS5 has AWD, looks way better, sounds way better, and has a gorgeous cabin. I just wish it had a stick.

It is kind of pointless to argue or be upset about S4 being slower than M3, or vice-versa. An S4 is an S4. An M3 is an M3. At then end of the day, they get you from A to B but just go about it in different fashions.

Both amazing cars in their respective light.

I just though about this and i believe that comment where you say bmw is much more oriented towards sport/track driving may in fact be wrong. Audi makes a sports car that matches the M3 on the track - tt-rs, and thats with a lower power to weight ratio which i believe is pretty impressive. Also when the tt-rs comes to the US audi wants to up the car to 360 hp, with that im sure it will surpass the M3 on the track. And if you want to get into a whole new segment of track driving just look at the r8, bmw has nothing close to it. While the M3 is certainly better on the track than the RS5, i dont think that necessarily means that bmw is better for track driving overall, this was just one example.

^I was quick to make generalizations. My whole point was I feel a front engine (that isn't over f wheels) rear wheel drive, fairly light car is gona be better suited towards that kind of stuff. But either way great cars; their apples and oranges :)
