Depends. If you don't travel anywhere that requires emissions testing I'd go with just a test pipe for the gains and price. If you travel or will/could travel anywhere in the near future that requires it I would get the hfc. But you can always swap out the test pipe for the stock cat for trips also.

If no emission passing laws, I'd say go without, but my guess there will be more drone, and it will def be louder (you prolly aware of that already).

Not with the RAI downpipe. The HFC/test pipe section is incorporated into the downpipe so it's all one piece.

Ah. I see. That's nice. Good to know. Thanks.

What are your thoughts on this setup (downpipe w/ HFC) on stock Tiptronic exhaust?

Hey ya'll just before I place my order just wanted to know if I should get the HFC or not?

With HFC Pros: Less smell, environmentally friendly, muffles sound a bit more down to be quiet

Thats only a selling point if you believe in the global warming myth. [poop]

but id get the HFC.

I think its a great upgrade. Youll see the same gains/ sound as with the manual.

Orly?

really really.

If I use the stock exhaust setup along with the downpipe/HFC, will this cause any breather restriction?

Additionally, is it a straight bolt-on to the stock exhaust?

The opposite. It will remove the restrictions of the factory exhaust. and yes, its a straight bolt on.

I've been looking into this for a while and here is the feedback I've gained. With the test pipe you will get a small increase in power of the hfc, gain a little smell, and a little drone especially when you have the back seats down. Sounds a little raspy when not under load but when getting on it sounds great. Hfc is less drone/quieter, shouldn't have any smell if it's a quality one (which I'm sure rai is), but lose the couple ponies and maybe a minor decrease in spool time. Most states it's illegal to replace the cat with anything but oem, but that applies to the whole exhaust system at least in IL. Hfc will be pretty much undetectable and you should pass emissions unless you get hit with the any after market modification to exhaust fine.

So in theory, after installing only the dp/hfc setup, the only benefit I would gain by replacing the rest of the exhaust system is sound?

essentially. you might see a very slight gain, but you wont feel it like you would with just the downpipe.

Will - Do you think your HFC/downpipe combo will pass the California smog station sniffers?
