Hey guy,

So I hopped in my A4 this morning turned on the ignition and bam my stickshifter won't budge. The only thing I was able to move was down to try and get it in reverese. It was very cold last night, but it definetly has been colder in years past. I was finally able to get it in gear, it seemed as if something in the gears were frozen, after about 15 minutes driving on the highway it shifted normally. When I first started to drive it, it seemed like there was jelo stuck between each shift, not crisp at all.

Has this ever happened to anyone? if so what can be done so this doesn't happen again? I have been driving stick for the past 10 years and never experienced this. Thanks!

Sometimes I do have to force first on a cold morning. I've heard that the car doesn't warm the tranny so its sometimes rough. Do you leave the car in neutral over night? Could just need to lube the linkages on the tranny.

it's happened to me a few times it's a combination of the cold and water/moisture freezing on the shifter linkage.

I hate you for having weather in the 70's. Linkage could be frozen maybe even ice on the tunnel or something. Check it out over a case of beer :)

The same thing happens to me when the temperature gets below freezing. I'd say this is pretty common among us manual drivers.
