I have been reading a lot of issues on the cam follower lately and since my car is going to the dealer at the end of the week. I have a question for ya? Is it affecting all B7 regardless of transmissions or only specific year models? either way it is getting check out. Thanks![wrench]

It affects all of the 2.0Ts (not the latest and greatest used in the B8 A4 as it uses a roller cam follower). Newer B7 A4s apparently use a cam lobe and follower that is much harder, but doesn't mean that the cam follower will never wear out.
If you're concerned about it and you should be, tell them to inspect it, or better yet, just replace the cam follower. If you're still under warranty, instruct them that you'll cover the labour and part if the cam follower is fine (and replace it anyways), but if the cam follower is severely worn through or completely gone along with a damaged cam lobe, then it should be covered under warranty. That's what I did, I ended up paying for the part and labour, small price for peace of mind and knowing that the cam follower is good for another 2-3 years.

Just had my cf replaced by the dealer (I supplied the part - thx ecs!) - although my old one showed very little wear (at 50k miles), I sleep much better now.

I did exactly the same , but after 160,000, replaced the cam follower and paid for parts and labor, believe it or not the old cam follower came out like new , I couldn’t believe it after 160,000 km , even the cam itself < I looked at it, no scratch what so ever, I don’t know, may be my car was made on Monday
