So I have a busted mount and am looking at my options. The most common 'upgrade' mounts are from 034, stern, and the OEM RS4 mounts. Then there is the original equipment mount.
034 - $95 ea (http://www.europaparts.com/034motorsport-motor-mount-street-density.html)
Stern - $210 pr (http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=2791)
RS4 - $120 ea (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4-FWD-2.0T/Search/8D0199379/ES5592/)
OE - $115 ea (http://genuinevwaudiparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214407&chapter=§ionids=10,0&groupid=10039&subgroupid=61113&make=2&model=A4%20Sedan&year=2006&catalogid=1&displayCatalogid=0)
If I go with OE, then I only need one mount (for now), but if I 'upgrade' I would need to buy two mounts to make sure the mounts were comparable.
Another thing that I find interesting. Is that some of those mounts are listed as compatible with B5/B6/B7s. Why are the multiple options of OE mounts that are much cheaper (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4-FWD-2.0T/Search/8D0199379/) not compatible with the B7? Is it a matter of the 1.8T mounts not being strong enough for the 2.0T, but the bigger mounts are fine on the 1.8T?
Any suggestions on what I should do (with a rationale backing it up) would be awesome.

Not to thread jack, but does a collapsed engine mount actually damage other parts in the engine or transmission? This is just to absorb the vibration while idle no?

I am pretty sure the engine mounts support a load from the engine. If the mount is completely incapable of taking a load, then extra stress will be applied somewhere else, which could ultimately lead to more failed parts.
Now back to mount discussion:
Another thing that is confusing to me, is that there are tons of different part numbers for the OE replacement

And they are all different prices at genuineaudiparts.com:
8E0199379AD (superseded by BG)- $106.52
8E0199379T - $162
8E0199379AC (superseded by BJ)- $106.56
8E0199379AA - $102.24
8E0199382L (superseded by AC) - $106.56

Does anyone know how stiff these aftermarket mounts are, as in, what numeric value? i might be wrong but i thought someone on here said the stern mounts were too stiff for daily driving.

034 street density seem to be what a lot of the BT guys here have been going with. Unless you are running a bigger turbo, I'd just buy the OEM ones.
I suggest replacing both Engine Mounts at the same time, even if you stick with stock.

What are the advantages of going with a rs4 motor mount set up?

Yes sir! They have been holding up quite well so far and not too much in cabin vibration either.

Yup thats it! I mean on a stock turbo it WILL help in decreasing drive train movement but really unless you are pushing a bit more HP thats when they really shine.... Id just go with the stock ones even those stand up well for a while with the BT's from my own experience...

About how long is the expected lifetime of these mounts? I assume if you are lowered, it will be shortened?

A lowered suspension causing the engine mounts to wear faster....not correlated.
The mounts are fluid filled; if you slam the gears around too much they will begin to leak and when the fluid is gone you get the clunking. I went with Stern bc they are metal and have a live time warranty. they are also rebuildable.

stern's are $210 for a pair, not for each one. i'm planning on getting stern's soft mounts this summer.

Good catch OP is fixed.
So the thoughts so far are:
034 street density is not fluid filled and is stiffer than stock and doesn't increase cabin vibration "much".
Sterns are good because they aren't fluid filled and serviceable and have a lifetime warranty (no mention of warranty on purems).
I would be curious to know how or why the sterns would need 'servicing' and what the difference is between all the different OE mounts in this post (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/413832-Engine-Mounts?p=6206156&viewfull=1#post6206156).
Also as Red S-Line mentioned, knowing the relative stiffnesses of the different mount options would also be good **cough** AZ sponsors **cough**.

Here are my thoughts on this. If you go with the aftermarket options, regardless if you work on your car yourself, getting the serviceable mounts repaired if they were to ever break in the future, can be a hassle. Do these manufacturers allow you to buy a new one, and then refund you the core charge after you send in your old broken mount? If not, I'm guessing you should plan on your car being out of commission for a few days if the mount ever breaks. If you're not planning on running a BT setup, does it matter that the mount is serviceable IF there is a delay in getting your car operational again?
Personally, I would just upgrade to the RS4 mount, and call it a day, but I would do that because at the moment I don't plan on going BT (unless I hit the lottery). But at least for $5/mount I'm getting something that is a little stiffer than the stock mount on a standard A4. Just my two cents.
