View Full Version : What kind of fluid?

So I was looking at my fluid levels the other day, and on the right side, what looks like it is connected to the abs module, the canister says mineral hydraulic fluid only, can regular hydraulic fluid be used, and what is this for anyway?

the little green cap? power steering.

Its the power steering reservoir.

You MUST use "CHF11S" Fluid, or you'll break the rack.

Is that available at most autoparts stores or is that audi-only?

mostly Audi dealers only

You can buy it in motorfactors here in the UK without too much trouble.

Not to thread jack, but is there any good write up anywhere on how to replace my power steering fluid? I replaced all my fluids in my vehicle, minus my power steering fluid. And want to get that done when good weather comes out.

Is one supposed to syphon it out with an extractor, replace back to min level (on cold engine), then bleed system by bringing steering wheel all the way to the right and left 10 times (cap off, engine off, but key in starting position)? Any step by step procedure would be nice. Otherwise, I will just do it the way I just listed. Unless there is an easy way to drain the system without syphoning out the fluid? If so, I will do that, top off to min level, and bleed system via Bentley instruction.

Edit: I will also be using Amsoil Power Steering Fluid (it's ok to use on Audi)

Thanks for the offer pete, but the shipping is going to cost more than the fluid itself since I am in Canada, and thats not even counting duty. I'll have to look around in town or internet for some.
