Hey guys,* so this morning I left for Maryland to pick up my cousins BMW (its awesome BTW...). We flew out of Milwaukee so I drove us there. We leave my house in Rochester and I notice I'm* *under a quarter tank on bp93, Rochester doesn't have any bp gas stations so I filled up at kwik trip. 91octane.* *Reset the trip at the gas station and head out for the flight.* We made 2 stops on the way there, one for food and one to take a leak.* *I went 74 the whole time that it was a 65 mph zone on i90.* *Arrive at Milwaukee, about 280 miles to get there and I look down and I'm at a half tank... what?! I have a 15.x gallon tank.* *Ended up filling up and I got 37.4 mpgs.*

This is crazy to me... I didn't thenk I could get over 30 lol. Especially in Feb!* Before I left I cleaned my throttle body, maf, put in new plugs, did an oil change and got a panzer plate (increased aerodynamics! Lol )* here's a pic though* *http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii155/flynnr1/IMAG0016-3.jpg

I've gotten 32 or 34 one time last summer, it was 100% freeway/highway driving. Impressive seeing how it was about 95* for half the trip, 4 people and luggage in the car, and running the AC occasionally. It was a nice surprise though [up]

I don't even get that on a full tank of gas!

The 1.8 does very good on gas but that sure as hell beats my average. I drive 90% highway to college and I only get 32.4 mpg

Wow. Highway driving lately (freaking cold morning temps), and I've been getting *almost* 23mpg in my 1.8T Tiptronic. Which sucks pretty bad. In the summer I've gotten up to 31mpg. This is all in stock mode.

So, hmm...

You did...."throttle body, maf, put in new plugs, did an oil change and got a panzer plate". Except for the panzer plate, i may have to add maf and throttle body to my list when i do my oil and plugs nexy.

Good stuff!

I have cruise control on constantly on 65mph and never go into boost. Hypermiling is fun when you are broke.

highway miles ftw!
I drive to Macon pretty regularly, and if I fill up before I make the trip (round trip about 220 miles)
I can make it back home w a little more than a half tank

Let us know how many miles you get out of the second half of the tank...I have never had a car where I got the same out of the first half as I did out of the second half.

Mines is full with only 12.9 gallons. Roughly 400 highway miles.

Same thing with me.

I get like 250+ at half tank then like 180-220 at second half.

That's because there's a 2Gallon reserve when you hit E.

Thanks, I never knew how to read a gas gauge before....[>_>]

For example in my BMW...I get 175 miles on the first half of the tank. The second half up until E I get 75ish... The gauge in the car read 17 MPG avg. So ADDING in the 34 miles from the reserve that is 109 miles vs 175 miles.

This. Our fuel gauges arent exactly labratory quality precision instruments. Especially with some age on the resistors.

Try a full tank for a more accurate mpg number.

My last 1/4 tank only gets me about 75 miles, while the first half get me almost 250.

yeah when i get to half tank that really is more towards a 1/4. when my gauge reads half talk i can put probably 9 more gallons of gas in my tank...

Lol sorry for not being clear. I filled 7.65 gallons of gas, and my trip was 285.9 when I got to.the gas station. I divided the two into each other and came up with 37.376, which I rounded to 37.4. It shouldn't really matter what point of the tank this occurred in policy. If the first half of the tank gets way more mpgs I'd always be running a full car lol

EuroDriven

That makes more sense, that is how I always do it.

1. Fill to full
2. Drive
3. Record miles drive
4. Fill to full again
5. Record amount of gas taken to fill
6. divide miles by gallons
7. /argument

Doesn't matter if he runs a full tank or only half. Long as he does the math correctly, thats the true accurate MPG.

Also, you should get better mpg as you go seeing how you are getting lighter..
