New LED tails showing up

Just figured I'd post a heads up. Figure there is enough interest as the thread with the cell phone pic of the dectane LED tails pops up every so often with everybody wanting an update. Was browsing ebay today and came across a few options I hadn't seen before.

The first aren't my favorite. They come in red and a smoked color.

I don't think it's the sun. Brightness was a challenge on the set I made and to obtain something acceptable, half of the LED cost is already above the price of Ebay's set.

I personally like the red ones with out smoke but I don't like the clear look at the bottom. I might tint that part red so it will look more like the OEM tail lights. I like how the OEMs are all red with a very tiny clear slit.

I also just asked him if he does group discounts, hopefully he does and maybe who ever is interested can order them.

I just bought a set of the red/clear [:)]

The exchange rate isn't too bad. I worked out the overall price & import duty and it's only about £20 more than buying the other LED design from UK suppliers, so hopefully I'll be the first in the UK with these!

I'll probably apply red tint film to them, with thin slits for the reversing lights like OEM units.

The taillights have a dark trim on them that I am worried will stand out on my silver car, but I figured I will smoke them myself if it doesnt look right. Atleast if you order the red ones you have a choice to smoke or not VS the smoked ones, if you dont like them you are stuck.

Seems that it should be an easy fix for them to start producing sedan taillights when they have already made the avant.

anything on ebay always has a "sketchy-ness" to it but, the fact that this guy has posted a video up close and many different angles, I dont worry about fitment...and only time will tell about quality.

So here they are, I purchased the 3rd set Red/Clear(not smoked). I will start by saying these lights will def look the best on a black car due to the black trim. I believe I can get used to it since the LEDS looks so good. As for the fitment, on a scale of 1-10 they are a 9.8. Pretty much OEM quality. And it is hard to tell in the pics but they are WAY brighter than stock.Tomorrow I will get daylight pics....also there are no codes....heres the pics

I would like to warn you as well: Removing the lenses from the OEM set is not a joke! No sealent like the headlights, the lenses are welded. The plastic is really britle as well. It can be done but careful

The good news is the lenses on these are glued on with similar glue as the headlights. But, the glue line is atleast a half inch more inward than factory so that's why the lenses are painted black on the inside around the edges, to hide the glue.

I went around the edges a of couple times with a heatgun as I would on headlights but when I started prying, the lenses started melting cause they are much weaker than factory.

The factory lenses aren't as see through and have lines while these ones are crystal clear and more of a candy red much like the b8. I was going to rub off the black, then shoot everything red except for the tiny reverse part.

So if no one successfully removes the lenses on these within the next few days then I'm just gonna give up and go with plan B.

I've actually decided not to do the lense swap. The trim has really grown on me and I really like the lights now... Phil is still going to take a look at them, so he can tell IF can even be done, but mine will not be swapped....

If you are a diehard OEM+ person you will prob not like them...But for me I do like them . They are not OEM but they dont stick out like a sore thumb on the car.

Overall I am VERY pleased I bought these....Also did anyone buy the smoked ones?

Dectane are coming out with 5 new lights for SEDAN. Among those 5 are new tail lights. I don't know what they'll look like or exactly when they will be released, but I was promised that it would be in good time before June :)

X2, I don't think a product should be considered inferior because it is purcahsed
on ebay. Just like I don't think my LED tails are any "better" because I bought
them from Germany... like hamidsvikes said, you can often buy the same product
from many websites.

everyone has their own opinions and taste. If its the look you dont like then thats fine. If its the quality you question, this lights are error free and fit just like the OEM ones....I dont know about the other tail lights on there but I would 100% buy from this seller again.

I also found a completely standard A4 B7 SE to compare against... bit blurred as I was using a 50mm lens, but my door mirrors could practically fit under the ones on that!

All in all, I'm pleased with them, but I've ordered red tint film to give that a go too [:)]

The style of these I have to say looks really similar in to the OEM b8, or even mercedes Eclass or Porsche 911 led taillights. The clear red lens, the grid by grid fashion led chain, tiny bit of clear chrome. Looks like they all rolled off the same conveyer belt.
So if these are rice than those are rice.

I stopped reading modified car mags when the cars had TV screens for headlights... now that was "rice".

These are pretty well made & look clean on the black & they match my LED number plate lighting, so I'm happy [:)]

Sorry for the crappy pics. I installed the smoked pair. I have already contacted the seller and am going to switch these out for the Red Clear. Seems a little to dark for me. The fit though is very good and the quality does not seem bad at all.

i was not a fan of the trim at first either and was thinking of switching the stock lens', but after looking at them for awhile I love them...I'm not changin shit!...My windows are so dark that, the trim kinda goes with it, if that makes sense.

Unless you drive in reverse on your regular trips then i wouldn't worry haha

I dremelled the lenses off of the factory lights. On the highest setting, the housing kind of just "melts" off of the lense.

I pried the aftermarket lense with a flathead and softened the glue with a heatgun.

I also stole the factory reverse bulb housings (can't really see the clear reverse cutout without it) and factory trunk edge pieces (factory is matte and says audi while the aftermarket is gloss).

I'll go put em on when is stops pouring here in Seattle

I had excellent customer service...He did not send a tracking number but I emailed him and got a speedy response. I believe it took about a week to get the lights though.

I've attacked my original lights with the Dremel to switch the lenses... you've got to carefully flat the edges back to make them fit to the new ones as they have a section that interferes with the new light housings.

I'll post up progress soon, I've been taking a few pics at each stage.

No I'm planning on tomorrow. But when I do, I'm gonna find a glue that's similar to the headlight stuff and paste it everywhere, covering the entire outer edge where the chrome ends. Because 1 it's grey and will cover the black housing (will look better through the lense) and 2 I can remove the lense whenever I need just in case.

Ya I was gonna remove the black and transparent red paint on those lenses then shoot it all clear dyed with candy red to make it look stock but the lense is too clear and shows all the imperfections in the chrome housing. Also didn't like the brand name and part numbers on the lense. "Sonar"

If you still need, I have an extra set of stock inner lenses already perfectly cut off. just pay for shipping you can have them

I decided to have a go modifying the rear lights...

I chopped the lenses off the original OEM ones with the Dremel:

I've since been flatting back and polishing up the edges of the lenses, which is a dull process! [rolleyes]

I trial fitted one of the lights back in the car with it's new lens to check the fitment - the original lens is larger than the one that the new lights came with and it's just a case of playing around with it until it sits flush. The light fittings which pop into the wing are slightly too proud and causing a gap, so I'm trying to figure out a way of solving this... [:/]

I've solved the gap issue by removing the locating pins and grinding a few mm off their mounting positions - they fit much better now.

I've also wet sanded the grinding marks out of the lenses now... just looking into what type of adhesive to use. I'm thinking a clear silicone adhesive/sealant should work nicely.

Then I've got to do the whole process again with the inner light units [:)]

Just received those tails. Already installed (even tho my car is still stored for at least 1month, stupid winter).
Fit and finish is really close to OEM, I was suprised by the quality of plastics and it fits like my OEM tails.

I installed them a couple of days ago and in my opinion they look great. Unfortunately the part on the right side of the trunk lid is not working and I had to send them back to the distributor. Several other members of the motor-talk-forum experienced exactly the same problem. Up to now no one received working taillights. We all bought them from the same shop, because it’s the only one that offers them in Germany. Now we are desperatly waiting for replacements...

Did anyone experience the same problem, or was it all plug & play?

I've started trial fitting the lenses and it seems gel tape is the way forward, then I'll seal the units with silicone.

The gel tape gives a nice neat finish behind the lens, though the outer corner is proving to be a pain. I initially spliced in two strips of tape, but where they met, it looked like a crack in the lens. The trick is going to be to hide the joins [:)]

I should have them finished this weekend, so I'll post pics.

I believe there is another thread with the avant tails already because they were released well before the sedan ones started showing up. Besides the Avant tails don't have the black strip around them anyways.

i ended up getting my set in a while back and installed them this past weekend. sorry no pics yet, car is at the shop.

everything was straight forward, plug and play, except they dont come with reverse bulbs.

the only gripe i have is that the left side trunk mounted portion is somewhat crooked and i removed and tried to straighten a handful of times. not sure how to fix, or if the seal needs to be reapplied.

I bought a set from one of the eBay sellers and installed them today. The swap should literally take about 20 mins. assuming you do not have any issues. I did have a problem with the plugs on the LED lights, which took a few minutes to address. The plugs have a notch in one corner which did not match up with the vehicle's plugs...

I agree, that black outline would look terrible on my red A4.

Thanks, everyone. Monsoons are back today, if I can get a day with good sunshine I will take more pictures. The black trim is less noticeable on Dolphin. The smoked lense helps it blend with the rest of the car.

A couple other things, it did take some time to get the housings to mount and line-up. There is some adjusability and I am still not 100% satisfied. For about $300, these are pretty good quality parts, assuming the LEDs continue to work.

Not sure you will get a better result because the lense profile is different than OEM

same tails Dectane is offering as well. Dectane, however, has a different option for avant and supposedly will have more options for sedans shortly.

In short, it looks like this asian-based maker (sonar) is the supplier for all

anybody else have fitment issues? when i installed mine, the drivers side, inner/trunk mount light is skewed.... i dunno wtf to do to fix it. ive tried pushing it in while tightening like a mad man, and reapplying the foam.

Like it sticks out a bit? Keep playing with it. I thought one of mine from ECS were not fitting properly but after some minor playing around and looking at foam and such it ended up fitting and being completely flush.
