Has anyone ever popped out the trunk lid key lock and put a backup camera in place of it? If so talk to me. Thanks

The DVD Player, the video controller (little black box) needs to have the backup camera input.
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p816_c118_DVD-Player-USB---IMA-Multimedia-Adapter---w--OEM-Control.html

The Camera. If you don't have te DVD player you still need the video controller.
http://www.sune-tech.com/e-product_detail.asp?prod_id=163

VAG com to enable rear camera mode on RNSE

For the Video In Motion hack you need to flash the RNSE so you can set the speed higher than 5km/h, mine is set @ 250km/h. Now I can play music DVD with video while driving, nice 4 the passengers.

Cost: 350,- for the DVD player with OEM control and 160 for the camera.

Did you have to replace your stock navigator display? Is your navigator, and telephone still working?

Camera in the trunk lock is no problem. It the OEM way of doing it. You will need a new grab handle, the OEM camera and wiring. It wasn't an option on the A4, but it was an option on an A3 or Q7 (I think), and they use the same grab handles as the A4.

The RNS-E is completly stock except for the firmware, but that's for the Video in Motion. So everything works normally (phone, nav, SDS etc.). You can control the DVD player by steering wheel or RNS-E, it has OEM control done by the Audi video interface unit.
The only car with a RNS-E and a backup camera is a Lamborghini, if you use VAGCOM and log into the navigation, then adaptation and than channel 5 or 8 (not sure about the channel...) you see the option ''back up camera (Lamborghini only)'' Change 0 into 1, now when you go into reverse the RNS-E gives priority to the video channel no mather what you are doing with the RNS-E if you take it out of reverse it wil maintain the image for 3 seconds.

That's the normal 2006 S-Line steering wheel.

Looks like ecstuning.com is now carrying a back up camera kit for the b7 audi. Here's the kicker, it costs $750...lol no thanks. Even though thats the kit I was looking, it is a bit expensive.

Tell me about it. Looks great and it looks stock, but I'm not about to drop that much money on this kit. It is so overprices. I agree with you. If it was 1/3 the price I would have ordered it already. But for almost $750 I dont think so.

i did the Q7 tailgate conversion from audiforum.us (like the one above)

i bought an pioneer camera to fit in since i have an aftermarket nav. I love the fact its an oem piece.

I have taken it to the mountains quite a bit and besides getting dirty no problems yet with weather/condensation.

Yes. You will get a bulb out error because of the led light that is part of camera. I also experienced some video issues after about a week.

How hard was it to fit the Pioneer cam? I have the pioneer cam now and was thinking about doing this but the Pioneer cam looks much bigger than the OEM one from what i can tell.

definitely takes a little time a skill with a dremel. i wouldnt tackle it if you dont feel comfortable with a dremel and possibly having to buy another liftgate handle if you screw it up badly. (there is quite a bit of room though)

my pioneer camera was too small height wise and too fat width wise. so i just shaved little by little, till it felt snug, as well as making sure the lens was sitting perfectly flush in the liftgate handle. Then used rubber shims that were in my camera install kit to put on top and bottom. double checked the cameras position on a screen, and then put some silicon around the outside to make sure it doesnt move about. i wish i had some pictures of the inside, but it requires a lot of work to get that piece off on the avant.

i did a little research when i did this, and found that pioneer to be the closet "looking" i could find that looked similar in size to the oem. obviosuly it took some work, but if youve got the time and patience, its worth it. [wrench]

I yank out the camera once it failed. I didn't have enough time to try a resistor. I did read in a different thread were someone installed a resistor.

I just ordered the Q7 handle and currently looking for new camera. I think I might do what Apatchin did.

All that is left is finding a good price on a rear camera.
