I'm hitting almost 82k miles right now.
I've been searching here and there for the belt kit price.

dbctuning
europaparts
ecs tuning
blauparts
their prices are all different.

Which kit do people use the most?
is the thermostat replace necessary?
do the old m8 bolts wear out when replacing?

I used europaparts, it seemed to look like the best kit with the most OEM parts. Also, the price on their website includes the thermostat for $286 & free shipping.

I'd recommend the thermostat because you will already have the front bumper & support either removed or at least pushed forward. You will have much more room to replace it, and all of your coolant will already be drained.

ELSAWIN says you are supposed to replace the M8 bolts for this service.

Phil,

What's your take on Blauparts (http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GH21129-1)? You mentioned on your excellent DIY that you bought your kit from them. I'm about to buy the kit from them, so I just want to make sure. Congratulati0ns mentioned that they do have the worse
parts.

BTW, thanks for the quickly shipping the bumper removal tool!

@Congratulati0ns, can you be more specific?

You are correct, got my kit from them, and got nothiing to complain about since 90% of the parts were OEM
Not sure why "Congratulati0ns " is bashing them, I am not complaint

I was very happy with my Blau kit and the instructions that came with it were very in depth if you have questions.

I did not pick the ECS kit for the following reasons:

1/ Thermostat not included
2/ Water pump impeller is plastic. Well known issues with these in the VW/Audi world = plastic brakes. Blau kit impeller was metal
3/ Not all the necessary hardware was included

I had my kit change in my old B6 and used fcpgroton parts. Never had an issue.
