I had the same problem with my armrest. It was peeling and looked so ghetto. Dealer said no way and denied covering it. I ended up getting lucky and my buddy was trading in his B7 and I swapped out the entire armrest assembly. I would just go to a junk yard and try and find one in better condition. I know it sucks especially at 24k miles.

I'll be able to tell you later, as mine is having the issue with the arm rest as well.

This is a typical VAG issue, they "coat" the plastic with "rubber" to give an initial nice feel, but it does not last.

I haven't checked the B8 is they are using teh same fabrication methods.

Not covered under warranty, I asked about it with my 2006 with the arm rest peeling. The guy said not covered, and quoted me a price to replace it. When I told him not to bother, he agreed and said he would not bother either.

It sucks really, as the peeling makes the interiors look like shit. I test drove an A6 before buying my A4 (wanted an A6 for the extra room as I have 2 kids) but so many of the buttons were peeling that it made the whole dash look like garbage.

I'm paranoid and won't use chemicals on the parts that peel. Just dust them and use a damp cloth. Some cleaners could dry them out. I still use protectant on the other parts.

Depends on what detail products you use. I would never use cheap stuff like armor-all or any other pep boys crap. Most of the high end stuff like 1Z cockpit cleaner, which is arguably one of if not the best interior cleaner made today would be perfectly safe for the interior.

The peeling doesn't occur on the B8's armrest as it does to ours.. I hate that mine is peeling, but don't feel like paying to fix it.

pretty common thing - the armrest has a tendency to develop a broken latch ( which can be replaced under warranty ), the J hooks which swing the armrest lid up and down tend to break as well but are NOT under warranty...

spare tire compartment lid cover latch is a common occurrence as well - (spring breaks off the little plastic piece that it's attached to ) very flimsy design. Happened to me twice and I baby my car.

if you happen to live in an area that is not cluttered with Audi stealerships, odds are you may get taken care of - since its more of quality than quantity mentality - in place like Los Angeles where there are numerous dealers within 30 min away from each other 90% of the time you get brushed off... (more people in the city = more problems = some of which are intentionally caused ruining it for many of us that this stuff actually happens to)

Hmmmm...this is good to know. If the latch mentioned is what I think it is then Im def having my dealership take a look at it. Ive been driving around with a broken latch and I hadnt taken it cause I've gotten the "nothing trim-related covered" smack before.
