Yes, I realize this only pertains to like 1% of my fellow B7 AZers, but I figured it was worth asking anyway. So, my wife and I are expecting our first child (yes, it was planned). Just about to start the second trimester. I'm curious to know if there are any recommendations as far as car seats go, in terms of fitment, safety, etc. I'm fully expecting this post to drop straight to the bottom to never be seen again, since it's not about ground-to-fender clearances or how much I can tuck a 19" wheel, but if there's just one AZer out there that can relate, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys.

My brother has twins and I regularly take them in my avant with their seats. They just turned three last week. I am stock height and wheels though. So, I am absolutely no help

Get the Recaro baby seat. Shit is baller. You'd be surprised how many people on here have kids and use baby seats.

get something along these lines to protect your leather from the seat digging in (only recommendation i can offer)

i dunno about the newborn baby seat, but i got a 4 year old and a booster seat in the rear passenger side. when he was smaller i used to have this safety 1st 4 point harness one in the middle. in a year or so you can transition to something like that once the kid is about 22lbs. http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_024W855301110001P?blockNo=6&blockType=G6&prdNo=6&i_cntr=1296700629386

our cars do have the latch system, so take advantage of it, i think most car seats are going to have the latch system these days but just make sure it does. you might want to check one like this out, it is the same as i had but also for rear facing for newborn from 5-25lbs
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_4260000022456NTRP?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

but i doubt you will get a rear facing to do on either side, it will most likely have to go in the middle.

those recaros look nice too, although i dont know what you have but it seems those are in an avant, and i think they have more space in the rear that an sedan does. i could be wrong though.

I think mine's a Graco. My daughter's nearly 2 years old now, but I've been carting her around since she was 3 or 4 months and have had a couple different car seats in different configurations. I have a front-facing behind me, but on both my Audi and my Saab, I had to put it in the middle for rear-facing. Just not enough room. I've been very pleased with the seats, but putting the seatbelt in is a pain in the ass.

Since your child will be small enough that the baby carrier doubles as the seat, you'll likely have a little base that it plugs into. Ensure the base is as tight to the seat as possible (and use some sort of seat protection underneath) and you should be gold.

There should be plenty of sites that offer baby seat safety tests. Good luck; I look forward to pictures when he/she pops out!

Granted, now that you have good answers, there was no need for the smartass comment in the OP. That will normally guarantee that you don't get helped out.

congrats man. our baby boy is 5 months and we have a 5 year old. 5 year old is on the driver side and 5 month old passenger side. makes it easier to see him(not really cause hes still rear facing), and rear facing seat is more agreeable with my girlfriends seat settings than my sunken down lowrider settings i keep while driving haha. when he was born till about a week ago i used a Graco "travel system" which is a car seat with base and stroller in one combo. the base permanently mounts into the harness system, car seat straps in and out of it and said car seat snaps into the stroller. only way to go... its so much easier especially for a new dad. all in all the a4 is roomy enough for kids, its no minivan but you will learn to pray every night your wife doesnt get the bright idea to go looking for one...hope this helps and good luck

actually "baller status" is Britax carseats...thats the #1 rating in safety and you will definetly pay for it!!!...But i got a Eddie Bower which is also a high rated safety seat and it matches my interior LOL...I had to use a carseat vinyl protector AND a thick towel to keep the carseat from putting creases in the leather, since the leather is so soft in these cars.

britax boulevard here. get the "larger" one (up to booster size) ... so your kid can grow into it.
best rated seat for the money and the onyx/grey matches my s-line interior.
def get the leather seat protector.
good luck!

I had a Graco rear facing then eventually Graco front facing and now down to just a booster seat. The first one was in the back middle of a 2002 GLI, it wouldn't fit on either side. The second was in the back of a Touareg, could have fit anything back there. She's been in the booster since I've had the Audi though.
