View Full Version : OEM cats vs direct fit vs aftermarket

I had some questions regarding a new catalytic converter. My driver side is blown and I already replaced the passenger side last year. I got an estimate for the OEM cats and they are mad expensive. I put in an order on rockauto.com for a Bosal direct fit driver side cat, BOSAL Part # 0990582. This isn't the OEM part right? Is Bosal an OEM manufacturer? Does anyone have experience with this cat? Will it not perform well and/or trigger my CEL? Should I return it and just go OEM?
Thanks for your help.
My B5 is a 99 V6 2.8 Quattro, 95000 miles no mods

you wont have any issues with after market unit, I have these running for 4 years without problems on my 2.8v6, it is great alternative to OEM

Bosal is not OEM, but they are a good quality manufacturer for the aftermarket. Some of their stuff even has a lifetime warranty (although I doubt they would do that on a cat).

Is the cat clogging up, or just throwing a code? I don't know what you mean by "blown".

the cat downpipes are falling off, i had it tied up to make it safe to drive.
