They were shot to death!! All ripped up!
Replaced them with Polk DB series .. couldn't be more happy for the kind of money spent on them!

No mine weren't BOSE. They were some POS factory paper cones. They did last 11 years though.

How intense was the install? Was there much wiring that had to be done or what? Wanting to do this as well but need to know if I can do it here or if I need some more of the stuff at my dads house to get the job done.

Will probably do this in the summer...i'm right now left with only 1.5 good speakers...the .5 one works half the time in case you wonder...[>_<]

Wow, going from the old OEM speakers to your Polk setup must have been a day and night difference! Nice work!

Sorry I can't quote on my blackberry but here are the responses.

Install was pretty straight foward, removed door cards (slide them up) no re-wiring needed, just bolt the speakers which requested some new holes considering german speakers only have 3 holes and american speakers have 4 holes. The rear deck was removed, took 3rd brake light out and unscrewed the speakers. That part needed to be re-wired because of the factory amp which is now bypassed, and again new holes took place back there .. And btw I run 2 12's sonyexplodes (not the best subs out there, but they deff do the job for what I need, and the whole sub/amp set up was free anyways) and a 800W sony explode amp also. Overall I'm very satisfied with this!!

One more question, are you using the stock head unit or after market?

2 12's is soooo much
all you hear is bass, imo

firm believe in one 10
and a nice amp.

Its really just a personal preference. the older i get the less i put in the next car. mine is all stock with just a indash dvd/nav unit. and its fine for me. i like having a trunk again!

I had one 15" audiobahn in my old wrx and it was very nice :) but back in teh school days everybody had 2 12's. you have to have some nice mids and highs with a nice amp to make it meet somewhere in the middle tho. plus it depends on the music you listen to. if you are more into rock or metal music 2 12s might be great opposed to somebody who listens to rap all your gonna hear is the bass. while your car falls apart lol.

Maybe someday i will put something small in the back and build some sort of custom enclosure.

As I am also looking to change my speakers this summer, could you do a list of what you've bought?

Polk #...... $......

That would be of great use!

I dont think their are any direct fit speakers for audi's. you basically will have to drill holes is all i think.

just go to www.crutchfield.com and put ur car in their. very easy. some other sites do it also. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ is a good priced place. ive noticed the fitment chart isnt always correct so compare them with crutchfield.

I've been running a in-dash pioneer DVD unit for the past 4/5 years. Model avh-4900p I think it is. Real old school but works like a champ.

What about the middle speaker and the tweeter?

And any distortion at high volume from the stock head unit?

What middle speaker? & my tweeter was crap too.
No distortion for me .. although I still have to mess with the EQ settings.

It's not really that much. I can't complain since I got them for free from a buddy of mine.
