I am considering upgrading to the JHM "solid shifter" and wanted to know if it is worth it.
I would be using the standard height shaft as well as the setting that has the least reduction in throw. I want to keep the action as stock as possible but have a more solid feel to the shifter. Does anybody out there have this configuration? Is it worth the investment?
Additionally there is talk about a heavy shift knob giving better feel. Can anybody chime in on this? Would it be better to simply upgrade the knob first to see if that changes the feel enough?
Thank you for your insight.

If your going to keep the throw as stock as possible just want a different feel then just change the knob.. Doesnt make sense to me. People change the shifter for a shorter throw, etc.
Why wouldn't you want a shorter throw?

It is worth it.
Once you tweak the shifter position after install it will shift like butter.

apparently it is a really big difference.....the shop i go to (speedsport tuning) when i told them i was considering it they were
"like well why dont you just put a cage in ur car and race with us, every car we race features the jhm shifter because it is such a solid and direct fit"
they rave about it and these people are pretty serious about racing (formerly farnbacher loles)

Thanks for the responses so far. I am not looking to shorten the throw much since I like the feel of stock throw, just not the slop in the shifter. That being said I have never shifted with a modified short throw shifter so I don't have much to contrast it with.

if i remember correctly they are adjustable to 3 spots, almost stock but a bit shorter, average short, and like stupid short shifting only people who race would be concerned with
it def cures the slop and you could always get an extender to make it long....all in all i think its a good decision

I think you will love it and you will wonder how you could live with such long throws thus far.

I had the JHM steel shift knob on a S4 and I loved it. It's really heavy and I would sometimes have trouble getting into 1st gear. After the knob, it was REALLY smooth. I plan on getting both the shifter and knob this time though

I have the JHM SS at stock height and love how solid it feels. It shortens up the shift a bit, hense ss, but nothing drastic.
