I just installed a rebuilt ABS module in a 2000 a4, but the same lights are still blinking. Solid ABS light and blinking brake light. Does the light need to be turned off with vagcom? Or should the light just be off after the reuilt ABS install?

Thanks,
Sean

you need to have the dealership write the coding to the abs module... its like 70 bucks

Is it a dealer only, or can a shop do it?

....? Since when is this required? I've swapped ABS modules in multiple B5's.

Anyway - Did you run the codes for the ABS lights or did you assume it was the module?

The symptoms where bad ABS Module and not the wheel speed sensor.

A bad wheel sensor would cause solid abs light, no flashing light.

Your module isnt fixed. I can almost guarantee that.

I have a bad sensor. The ABS light stays solid while the brake light blinks.

I'd double check it with VAG-Com just to make sure the module was really fixed. Double check your fluid level too while you're in there.

If you happen to be around here you can use my cable/computer.

Thanks A4Shizzle, but it doesnt look like San Jose will work for me. I appreciate the feedback. Looks like failed rebuild attempt or dealer has to clear the code.

Check the fuse for ABS and make sure the ABS computer is getting power. No power will cause the same light combination.

Dude, Bump. I am currently experiencing the same problem. Exact same thing but I bought a used module in working condition and the lights turn on and off randomly. nothing more annoying imo. Any info would be great

If the the used module was transported via UPS, etc, it may have broken in shipping. The little wires that break (which is the failure mode for these things) may have finally been finished off in shipment. With vag-com it is pretty easy to verify the failure. You will be unable to connect to the ABS module and the Instrument cluster will have a code for inability to talk to the ABS.

Looks like the Abs Module is dead. The rebuild didnt work on it, apparently sometimes this happens. Thanks to K0mpresd for all the help, great guy!

My rebuild did not work either. I would like to know what you do next about this. Keep me posted please. The lights are off for me when its super cold out. When it warms a bitback up, they are back on.

I can swap engines after building them, yet, I still have no idea how to test if the speed sensors are bad.

How do you go about testing them?

Rebuild companies such as Module Masters offer a lifetime warranty on their re-builds. I have not had any issues with mine or my gf's.
