Gents,

There's a possibility that I might be moving back to the West Coast and I'm wondering what you guys do to deal with CARB certifications?

I'm currently a healthy stage 2+ (piggies) and I know it wont pass CARB. Also, any of you have any issues with John Law and exhausts? When I lived out there, I got pulled over for not having a front plate. I've since bought my S4 when I moved to the east coast, so I've never had to try and get around this.

Any info/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you still have main cats, no CEL, and pass readiness, I don't think you will have a problem.

They really only give tickets for front plates in LA. Everyone I know gets front plate tickets in LA only.

it's a craft shot, you will or will not get a ticket. as for emissions, don;t worry about it and you will find a solution :)

I finally got a front plate ticket in San Diego a few months ago...only took about 110k miles on the car for them to notice. But it's got a front plate now (on a skidplate from podi.ca)

The issue isn't the front plate. I'll figure that out as needed.


I'm way more concerned with emissions. I'm getting my ECU back this week from APR and it SHOULD have the CEL coded out for the primary cats. We'll see how that goes, but I feel it won't go well because of the sniffer test.

Not at all. I'm asking what you guys do, who have gutted DPs, to get your car CARB certified. Code it out? Get high flow cats?

Just take it to a shop, you should be fine. Euro-Tech in culver city has a smog shop right behind it. Take it to Ardi or Jose at ET and tell them max sent you. They will make sure it's good to go and have it smogged for you.

It's official. I'm definitely making my way out there. My 770 setup will hopefully be done around the end of August, tuned and ready to come back home. I do hope to meet you guys at some point.

Damn, you got a 770 setup? I want a ride sometime! My car is down for the count but waiting for WB...605's in the plans but I want to see how 770's feel ;)

It'll be a detuned 770 setup, I'm running a single disc clutch. I'll get what I can out of it, but all out power isnt what I'm after. I wanted power, on less boost, and something that I could track very easily. It made more sense to not push the RS6/605 setup to the limit, and run a strong conservative reliable tune on 770s. As for a ride, if we can get it smogged without issue, definitely.

Yep..I was thinking I want more power but not concerned with having the highest dyno numbers around...thinking the quicker spool of the 605's would be a nice balance..moderate tune with rods and some other stuff to keep the reliability up.

I'm no expert, but I'm basing my goals with the car on a track day and how I like to drive. It made more sense to me to have something quick spooling and ability to thrash at WOT than to rip the fabric of time.

Seriously though, we'll have to hook up and get it all legalised and hit some canyon roads.

I do really like it there. I used to live just north of Sony Imageworks by about 2 blocks. Frequented Venice and PdR/SM/etc all the time. We'll meet up at some point.
