Me and a cousin went out to have some fun, closed road of course. Here's 2 best videos I could pick out from the races, the recorder is an amateur as you can see.
2007 Audi A4 2.0T CVT vs 2003 VW GTi 20th Anniversary 6MT

My major mods: HFC, APR Tune. -see sig for others (CVT)
GTi = Full exhaust, APR Tune, CAI, HKS BOV (6MT)

1st.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k257/Elmedin1320/th_M2U00037.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k257/Elmedin1320/?action=view&current=M2U00037.mp4)

2nd. (Had a 230 lb. passenger recording)
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k257/Elmedin1320/th_M2U00040.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k257/Elmedin1320/?action=view&current=M2U00040.mp4)

As you can see, the GTi is slightly quicker, although the mods aren't the same in both cars (I'm getting a custom DP, and a full exhaust soon).
Advantages of the GTi also are that it's lighter, and it's a MT, so therefore it has less drivetrain loss. (He also didn't have his spare tire in the car at the time, don't ask why).

Hope you enjoy this since there aren't many racing videos on here.

Looks like the GTI was a lot faster. Started pulling in the top end bigtime before he shut down

It was faster but I wouldn't say a whole lot. 1st gear roll I took him. I wonder what it would be like 60 roll and so on. Since I guess we get more HP. And a highway race is a horsepower race.

CVT so no quattro

Yea CVT. No quattro.

This isn't a public road by the way. It belongs to a warehouse, but it's been closed off. No traffic passes through there, ever.

Ooph, then it's not so good if you are both stage 2. The MK4 only has the 1.8t, so you should definately have more HP and TQ than the GTi. The GTi is like 600 lbs lighter, but I wouldn't think that would make that much difference.

I wouldn't think it would beat you if you were both stage 2. That sucks. It's the 1.8t engine too, less power, less torque, and 600 lbs lighter. That's its only advantage.

Yeah technically both are "stage 2" but his stage 2 is upped more than mine lol. Since he has a full exhaust. I'm thinking when I get the full exhaust it should be a even better race, no? And yeah, he's lighter/less power loss and a good driver also. Listen closely to his shifts, sounds like a automatic lol.

I'm disappointed, those MK4 GTI's are slow. I guess CVT makes a world of difference.

Compared to what? Stock for stock they're no slower than a B7 2.0T. 180hp 1.8T vs 200hp 2.0T stock and the GTI is far lighter.

I also raced one stock vs stock and it was dead even until 100MPH.

600 pounds is a MASSIVE advantage...

Although a FWD CVT weighs something like 300 less than a quattro tip. So against a quattro tip this is a much bigger blowout.

Yeah it is a lot of advantage. When I get the full exhaust it should be better.

But that GTI also doesn't weigh 600 pounds less. I'd be surprised if it were half that

And you'd be wrong. It is 600lb. The B7 weighs anywhere around 36-3700lb with quattro. And the MKIV is 29-3100lb roughly

Way to read buddy. First of all a quattro 6speed is 35xx pounds. His is a CVT front wheel drive. It's more like 300 pounds. Those GTI's weigh 3000

Way to read buddy? Okay. A quattro 6mt is not 35xx. It is in fact more. Almost 200 more. A front trak 6mt B7 2.0T is 3500. The MKIV GTI weighs in at 3000.

A fronttrak CVT is 3,428 and a 2003 20th edition GTI is 2,916, according to aol autos. So the difference is in fact more than I thought, but it seems over at vortex GTI guys are finding theirs to be 3000. I also think 3400 is a little high considering the quattro is listed as 3550 on aol autos. Nevertheless, the difference is more like 400 than 600 and yes, way to read. You started quoting weights for a car the OP doesn't have. I think that classifies as not reading....

Edit: if you're referring to the run with the extra passenger, then yes it's 600

Why are you arguing lol...
I'm saying the GTI is lighter and I don't know exacty by how much. Just leave it at that. And it does make a difference obviously if the car is lighter than the other.

You mean more like 500 right? Not 400 according to my math.

The quattro is not 3550. Look around some more. When I quoted the weight of the A4 I said Quattro not FronTrak, did I not? But whatever.

Yea but the OP has a fronttrak. I thought you were talking specifically to this race. And yea 5 my bad. Either way it would take a lot for the A4 to keep up because weight matters more and more the faster you go. The fact is the GTi is always gunna be faster dollar for dollar. I'm surprised by how close the race was to be honest.

I am not too surprised. I know that both the 1.8 and 2.0 are under rated from the factory. The 2.0T more so. They dyno closer to 190 to the wheels in some circumstances. That's a bit of an advantage before modding too.

I should clarify though. It dynos that high in FWD applications. AWD will be less natually

Mod for mod the 2.0T is more powerful than the 1.8T, but that is negated when you have a several hundred pound weight difference.

No, it was just a friend with a RSX Type-S waiting for us at the other end. He has a full exhaust installed too. He did some pulls with us.

im jealous, thats a pretty sweet set up, where i live theres not many places you can do it, although in new milford they just completed a two lane highway connector with a big cement mediam....if theres no one in front of you you can do some pulls and its pretty safe

Yeah it was only the 2nd time I raced there, but all kinds of people do it from time to time. It's closed off of the main road and not even visible [:)]
