My mom put 87 octane in her 1.8t, she drove about 10 miles and her CEL came on. She said it was running rough and she put a octane booster in it and pulled her neg terminal off her battery and the CEL is still on anybody have any suggestions? anything will help.

Go buy a pump and pump it out. Let the car idles to burn off the rest of the crap that she put in there. Fill it backup with premium and run some good fuel system cleaner. Unless she boosted the shit out of it and it detonated... Then it's time to get to wrenching.

Drive around without boosting it too much. It's not going to kill the car but CEL is probably from the car sensing knock. Also do what he^ said.

It will be fine. You don't have to pump it out, that's a complete waste of time. Just don't beat on the car and everything will be fine. I've had to do it several times and never had any problems.

WTF? 87 octane is NOT going to hurt a 1.8t, regardless of how tuned it is. Unless you have a custom Maestro tune, the ME7 ECU WILL adjust for the lack of octane by automatically bumping up the fuel timing, reducing the ignition timing, and adjusting the variable cam timing(if your particular 1.8t has it). 87 is not the problem. Have you even considered VAGing the car or at least taking it to autozone and having the code read?

LOL it's a 1.8T with a k03 your at 5psi if you need to go up a .0001% incline =P

code is probably from your mom forgetting to shut the fuel door or something ;)

x2 on 87 not doing anything to your mom's car, the previous owner on my 1.8t drove the car on 87 octane for 2 years before I bought it from him.

If you're paranoid you can always unplug the N75's electrical connector. That will put full pressure to the wastegate actuator and limit your boost to about 3psi. You gotta be careful though because the car will be really slow.

[insert joke about female drivers]

...but isn't this the point of having a knock sensor, so the ecu can adjust the timing?

lol...

Is "her" car stock? if so don't sweat it.
every car sold in the USA has to be able to run on 87 octane. Period.
it might not run optimally (as in the case with most foreign cars) but it will run and with out damaging the car.

if its just a basic chip, i still wouldn't be too worried.

as for the CEL, why don't you run the codes and find out what they are before jumping to conclusions?

I run 87 in my stock 1.8 everyday No problems, but I do have a CEL on now but that is for other reasons lol. deffinately pull a code if it doesn't go away.

I would just drive/cruise it with minimal boost til you dry out the tank... My drunk ass mistakenly put in 87 one time as well (the pump displayed 89, 91, and 87)....I'm used to grabbing the far right nozzle usually, and realized I already filled half the tank up with 87 before I stopped. I simply took the car home, and dumped in 10 gallons of MS109 to dillute/boost the octane. I ended up with a tankful of ~98 octane. :)

This is awesome- the drama behind putting low octane gas in a 1.8. Dude obviously doesn't know that there is a knock sensor in the engine. I ran 87 in my 2.8 (damn rural Iowa), it ran well, no knocks. Of course, when I got to refill, I had to rely on 91. What is with the midwest, especially the further you go from the Mississippi, you can't find anything higher than 91?

Well with the CEL and rough running, he has some reason to worry, though it may not entirely be related to the 87. Pull codes and go from there...

She didn't put a little bottle of NOS "octane booster" in the tank did she?

You mean the kind you can drink for energy? I put that shit in all the time, I always buy an extra one for myself.
