I am getting my front brakes and rotors replaced soon. I know they are going bad and they sqeak like crazy, and I need new ones to pass inspection. The dealer wants to charge $500 for this. Does that sound accurate? Seems a little high to me. The brakes and rotors probably cost around $200 right? So that's $300 in labor? Is this normal price for brake/rotor replacement at the stealership?

thats not bad, but in all honesty, its a hour long job max, and can easily be done yourself if you want to save some cash.

That is not bad considering what the OEM parts cost. It is about $350 in parts for S4 rotors and pads.

Dealer quoted me $850 + for front pads & Rotors.
I picked up complete set front and rear rotors with pads for $250 shipped took about 1.5 hrs in my garage with hand tools
theres a great DIY write up on it in the b7 owners thread

should be an hour of labor, (1 1/2 max!) plus cost of parts and stuff. for 500 you can get better rotors and pads then the OEM ones imo
but all in all thats a pretty fair price

If he has to ask, he is probably not capable of doing both brakes in 1 hour. He should still do it himself.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't have a garage or anything so it's hard to do it myself, but eventually when I get my own house/garage I will be a DIY master :)

buy your own parts on ECS or genuineaudiparts.com and take it to meineke/midas or local shop... whatever is cheapest... feel free to ask around for labor costs. This way you know you're putting on quality products.
Priced from ECS:
1) rotors... get at least zimmerman (zinc coated) $145.81 for the pair
2) pads... you have a choice, I like the Hawk HPS $117.49 for the pair
3) labor... I went to Meineke and it was 200 for front and rear, you'll have to ask for front only.
