The other day driving to work I notice large amounts of smoke(blue haze) coming from the exhaust. It was about 5 degrees. When I pulled over I pulled the dipstick and noticed oil was low and had foam on the dipstick.

Here is what ive diagnosed:

Little oil in lower int. hose, enough to drip
Nothing in catch can
Spark plugs seem fine
No oil in TIP
Fins seem fine and no shaft play, spin freely
Smoke coming from around exhaust manifold area
Hissing also coming from that area
Blue haze exhaust smoke.

Doesnt blue haze from exhaust mean a bad head gasket?

white=coolant
blue=oil

blue smoke is one of the signs your turbos gone the other is your car going to limp mode not boosting possible stalling out alot. you get the blue smoke from the oil being burnt in your bad turbo. if it was a headgasket the smoke would be coming out from under your hood.

Im thinking it might be the seals on the turbo. There was slight smoke coming from near the exhaust manifold area in engine bay though.

Car starts up fine and idles fine minus the hissing.

not sure on the hissing...but what you're describing i'm 99.7234% positive its a worn turbine seal. Usually you would notice the cloud of smoke exiting the exhaust coming up to a stop.

Thank you. DO you know if all A4 year turbos will fit a 2001?

If it's a 01.5 I'm pretty sure it uses a b6 k03.

Any K03 for longitudinal will fit your car. But it's best for you to find a K03-029; that's what folks around here call the "K03s", and is what your car came with. Try to avoid the older K03-005. Lame lame lame.

Put a K04 on it. That's what I did when my turbo blew.

Why don't you just fix the seal and save the money to go BT instead of getting another temporary k03

Find a local shop around you area that does modding. (even if it is not a euro shop.) and see what they would want to rebuild it a price it out that way.
