Hey all I come home from deployment this Feb, I was considering pulling the trigger with an 08 B7 AWD.
It's this or a 2006/7 G35 :)

Few questions:

I didn't find this in the sticky or searching;

1)Stock block, what kind of HP can this thing handle (WHP). I've seen the different setups and such it seems rather inexpensive considering...

2)Tranny, same question as above.

3)Gears, I didn't find much information. Was wondering if this even applied to the AWD?

Lastly I've read some great stories about how long these things last with regular maintenance, I'm impressed. I would be making this my daily driver most likely. I didn't bother to search for MPG (I'll google it). How about weight, this I can also google. I'll do that after this post.

Lastly, I've not been about to pull up many B7 1/4 times with mods. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thank you. [:D]

Whatever you do, don't get an Infiniti! Either a Merc or an Audi is remarkably better for tuning and overall quality.

A Merc? No idea sorry.

I happen to like the g35's, not the 37's so much. I was even considering a 370z, but I'm really not wanting to do another loan...

I'd like to pay cash...

Merc=Mercedes. i would not compare an infiniti to an Audi. overall quality is much higher in the A4. what transmission were you looking to get? as far as 1/4 mile times, there are people in the B7 that do it, the fastest stg 2+ time was in the low-mid 13's. the a4 is not meant to be fast in a straight line, auto-x is a much bigger in the community

He means a Mercedes (I think)

I thought of a 350/370 but I wanted a 4 door car.
Sorry can't help with the original questions

Cool deal, no one knows what the peak (safe) limit for the stock block/trans is? I really don't have 15k for a forged longblock/trans..

how far are you looking to go? i don't think anyone has maxed out the block, yet. Doctor is changing his cam/rods/pistons and should be pushing out ridiculous numbers soon. i think Flyingleggs has built his motor a little bit too. the 2.0t is a sweet little powerplant for sure. and i asked which tranny you were wondering about.

I was hoping you'd mention how far the trans would hold out, I don't know about having one built.

I was hoping for 400WHP daily driver. Though it has been said these are more of autoX cars, I don't really do much time trial stuff...

Wow the gas mileage is pretty impressive stock :) I'd mess that all up :P

OP, I don't have any input about your max HP question, but I can comment on Infinity/A4 comparison. I drove both, along with three 2007 328i's before I got my 2008 A4. Both the Infiniti and BMW have lots more stock power than the A4, but for me the decision was still easily the A4. Exterior styling far and away goes to the A4. Interior styling far and away goes to the A4. BMW felt cramped in the cockpit, and the Infiniti felt.. cheap. Lots of plastic. Ride was between the BMW and A4. The Inifiniti just didn't have that German road feel. Plus, the engine was loud as hell. The BMW clearly had amazing road feel, but was a little tighter than the A4. I thought the A4 had a good mix of comfortable daily driver feel, but good handling when you wanted to get on it. The 2.0T pulls plenty enough for me. It's not a racer and as long as you don't want to jump on it off the line, it's got plenty of power for fun driving. Plus, you can mod the hell out of it for way more power than the BMW or Infiniti.

Eh, a rev-up g35 can do 300whp na... Not to mention the variations of T/TT kits avalable.
I love the look, what can I say, however, I'm likeing the 08+ a4 more and more....
I guess if I'm gonna spend my hard earned cash, might as well get what I want.

I wish I knew more about the car, it felt insanely slow to me. So did the g35...
I'm really not a fancy guy, I'm not looking for luxury or anything...
My Nova II's inside isnt even finished but that damn 383 stroker 10.5-1 and new paint /w clearcoats sure turns heads :)

I kinda wanted a modern drag car more than a autoX :P
I'll do some more research of what I can pull out of it without replacing internals... *want to avoid that at all costs*

I guess I thought a AWD fairly light turbo'd car could give me that no? Maybe not, that's why I'm asking :D

Stage II+ power youre looking at 270 - 280 HP at the crank and around 310 torque at the crank (stage II+ is intake/turbo back exhaust/hpfp/tune) .... Power, I want more but I'm strapped for cash... 1st things 1st, bolt on mods you can get 300awhp - do intake, turbo back exhaust, high pressure fuel pump, sidemount or front mount intercooler, and bigger turbo... Turbo may require additional - sidemount intercoolers retain all stock lines... Don't think Im leaving anything out - please add if i forgot anything - rough part prices - intake 300, turbo back - 1000, hpfp (rebuilt) 700, sidemount intercoolers - 750, turbo kit - 2500.... No idea on labor costs for everything...

400awhp is whole another ball park - no idea on costs/parts... couple people working on it as previously mentioned - think at that point you should start looking at RS4 or B5 S4... don't really think it makes much sense to re-work the engine to that power on a A4 - doesn't seem worth the price tag... but whatever floats your boat...
Don't know where you live in the States but if you got snow I'd def do quattro like no other - fantastic in the snow... just as good as any Suv - just no clearance...

If you want power, speed and fast, don't get the A4. It's not a fast car. It's heavy and has a small engine.

They don't call it 2.Slow for nothing.

Subaru WRX? That would more then likely give you the numbers you are looking for, in an AWD format.

2500 for a turbo kit is a pretty low estimate, yeah you could get the turbo for that price, but the larer injectors, custom maf sensors, manifold, and the stuff to complete the kit will be somewhere around 4500-5500 not including labor....and thats if you dont touch the internals

Baruch

Turbo kit itself you can get for that price - as I mentioned - wasn't including labor - but yeah - definitely left out injectors...

Any bigger turbos off of a VW or any other audi fit the B7 A4? I know the s3 turbo fits with some shaving but as far as any other ones? - maybe take off a salvaged car w/ low miles or something for even less $$$

Get a b5 s4. That would probably be the most practical for the way you are trying to go.

Out of topic, but it really cracks me up when I see those banners "Support our troops, donate your old cellphone". And since I dont know any people who are in army now, let me ask you, do you guys sell those 5 year old cellphones and then come back home buying an Audi or Infinity? lol
It just seems like a big scam to me, why the heck our soldiers need an ancient Verizon or Sprint cellphone, which is not going to work overseas anyways?

Not gonna like a g35 is a solid car, much more reliable than an a4 as it has far less problems, its a nissan afterall... As for tuning idk what the first guy that replied was talking about because theres tons of modding capability for the g35.... A4 is a solid car if u want awd, and 4 doors. I live right near a nissan dealership and was literally SO CLOSE to getting a g35 but then my mom brought in the factor of snow, thats why i ended up getting a a4.... Either way both cars are great, if u dont need awd id say g35 all the way...

G35x only comes in automatic... F-that noise. Anytime I see a sports car in automatic I lose all value for the car and all respect for the driver... but thats just me.

That's what I used to believe... But, the faster times usually are in the auto's. That made sense when cars came in 3-4 speed autos, but now they they are 6+ speeds, you can't shift as fast as an auto. But yes, sticks are so much more fun to drive.

the only paddle shifter cars i really like are the ferrari's, a person i caddied for at a country club forgot his wallet to tip me and felt bad and said he would drive home....i thought bullshit if this guy is coming back, but he came back in his black ferrari scatleggiti (sp?) and said i could either have a 20$ tip or he would take me for a drive in his ferrari....obvi i chose the ferrari and damn those gearboxes shift at a ridiculous speed, downshift, upsift all takes fractions of seconds.....

our tip tronics i always felt i could give them a run for thier money in shift times

I believe that say only goes for an NA 2.0 motor [:)]

Well, I would never compare a ferrari to an a4 lol - but besides the point - there are fast cars that are all auto or automanual - but whats the difference between you getting in and driving and a 17 yr old azn girl that just got her license... you both put your foot down and off ya go - cept she may go a lil quicker cause shes lighter than you... Stick will always be the only way for me to go... now don't get me wrong, I would love a ferrari or any other car that fits into that category - but for sport purposes in my price range - i'll always prefer a manual....

the a4 is definitely not a drag car, but you can definitely get 400awhp if you upgrade the turbo and like what others said get a chip (tune), turbo back exhaust system, front mount intercooler And/Or a High Pressure fuel pump.

check out this thread

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/214939-My-Track-Spec-A4-B7-Project/page57

he's getting close to 400awhp i'm pretty sure and there are plenty of other big ass turbo projects around these forums, but
you gotta remember this car is not made for drag, its more of a good-handling car with impressive torque

Power's not everything a flat or well rounded torque curve makes the difference. I guess I'm shopping more than anything right now, he'll I don't come home till LATE Feb. So until then, I just got time to look and see what's out there. One of my friends had a stock Audi A4 2.0T and we got to 140 it seemed really fast. That was with the 4 people in the vehicle.

I was mostly curious about the capabilities of the car more than anything, it's a damn good looking car interior and exterior. That was one of its selling points to me.
I'm from California, by the beachs of San Diego. So, I'd never really have to deal with snow. I do have to deal with a lot of cops and emissions laws though. I know test pipes and changing injectors in California is a NO GO. I was also trying to avoid that, but eh, it's whatever.

Honestly If I did pick this vehicle over a g35/370z I'd be because it's really a great looking vehicle, from what I've read it handles as well as a BMW. That's also not a bad selling point!... Though honestly, I believe I'd have a bit more fun with a G35/370z.

I've looked into the STI/EVO plenty and the "little rich kid racer" look is not at all something that appeals to me. Or anyone nearing 30 for that matter, though I've seen many ah old guy in EVO's around here (San Diego). It just looks too "Retarted and Furious" to me... *Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm not trying to be offensive.* It's just my opinion and heh, it really doesn't matter to anyone but me :p

I guess I wanted something that says I got some class and a bit of speed to match it, that's all. Hell with the nova it makes damn good power, but then again there are guys running around here with 700hp NA motors and can push 1000+ with a big whiff of nos. When people are driving those things all around the streets, they're simply faster than you, me, and just about any one else. I dont want the fastest car, but something with good power, nothing for nothing but breaking the end loose at 60 while on the freeway is fun :)
