how hard is it to replace the tone ring on the rear of the quattro the PO had done a wheel bearing and broke the tone ring and never replaced it? is their a DIY?

car is a 96 a4 2.8qm

I may be mistaken, but I believe these are not replaceable. I think you need to replace the axle in order to fix your problem.

I think I need a new rear tone ring due wheel bearing damage too. It causes my ABS to kick in at low speeds.

It looks the tone ring is part of the outer CV joint. You can source the outer joint from autohausaz.com or most other vendors. The info from the links below should be all we need to get the job done. I might night get to it uintil the spring so let us know how it goes.

i bought a rear ring for it from work. so im going to attemtp this next time i have time
