Ok folks. After a lot of debate whether I should mod my current car (210000kms) or upgrade to something newer or better, I have decided to proceed with my original plan.
So here we go... I am planning in complting these mods over the winter and into the summer as funds will allow. I previously had chosen several mods in a previous thread Planning my build (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/345105-Planning-my-build?highlight=) That I have pondered and evaluated. Eventually I have come up with a plan for the car.
Today I booked an appointment to go over to H2Sport in Georgetown to get the APR fully loaded ECU that is on sale right now. Being that this is my first mod, I think it is a good start.
Following that and when funds allow I will be adding:
APR fully loaded ECU DONE
Brembo 332 mm front BBK DONE
ECS two piece ventilated rotor rear brake upgrade DONE
Stratmosphere quad tip catback exhaust with S4 valance DONE
S4 rear valance DONE
034 Motorsports High Flow Cat DONE
034 Motorsports silicone intake hose DONE
034 Motorsports snub mount DONE
AWE front mount intercooler DONE
Carbonio Intake DONE
JHM Short Shifter
Vogtland coilovers DONE
VMR V718 19" 8.5 Gun Metal wheels DONE
RS4 rear sway bar DONE
3 piece spoiler DONE
Cupra Lip spoiler DONE
R8 oil and coolant caps DONE
S4 engine and battery covers DONE
OCarbon silver carbon fibre desk kit DONE
Vorsteiner Vented CF hood
Maybe next year I will be looking into an APR Turbo Kit - Stage III with FMIC.
So I am open to comments, criticism or suggestions for better or alternative parts. I know there are lots of people here who know their stuff so I am relying on your feedback.
Does anyone know of a good company who makes 3 piece CF spoilers or lower valence?
I will add to this thread as I progress with the build.
Check back tomorrow and I will post my impression of the new APR software.[;)][drive]

Not really a build, sort of just a collection of common bolt on performance parts, carbon fiber, and VMR's

In my opinion, everyone's car is a statement. Mine will ultimately be mine. Call it what you want. It is still a build to me.

Personally, I think any amount of work that changes a car from stock to something different is enough to consider it a 'build'
Best of luck getting things under way, I'm looking forward to the results! [up]

Ok. The APR flash is done and so far I like it. I have only tried the 91 program and it feels great. Tomorrow I'll throw some 94 in and see how it goes. So for now a big thumbs up to APR!

Moving forward I am thinking a BBK will be my next upgrade. The shop that did the APR work suggested a Brembo kit. My only concern right now is that I would like to go as big as possible while still being able to use my factory 17" rims in the winter.

Why would you go with a BBK right after chip? I think you should not waste your money on a BBK at this point. I would go with everything else on your list but the BBK. I would do that at the end. Are you going to track your car? It seems like you have some big plans [wrench]. (big turbo)
A lot of people here think the Carbonio it's not worth it, too expensive for what it delivers. The stock air box should be good enough. So maybe you want to research that a bit.
Good luck with your mods.

i think do whatever you want to its your car, from what you selected it will be a great looking, well performing car
i like the bbk and if i had the $$ to drop on that i totally would do that
Cottonmouth
01-05-2011, 11:04 AM
The reason I am looking to go BBK is because right now my rotors need to be replaced. My whole philosophy is if it needs replacing then replace it with something better. I do plan on tracking this car eventually do why waste money on oem parts.
The Carbonio intake is mainly for sound and appearance. I know the performance increase is minimal.
I did do my research. ;)
mr shickadance
01-05-2011, 12:19 PM
if you are thinking of tracking it, look into 18's....i think 19 would have too thin of tires and it would decrease performance
Cottonmouth
01-05-2011, 01:02 PM
I like the 19"s for appearance reasons only. For the track I woul looking into maybe even a 17" rim with some R compounds that I can change at the track.

H2Sport was pretty good. I called them over a month ago and asked for a quote on the BBK on the other hand and they said they would get back to me with a price. I guess that is some business they won't be getting now.
Oh and as far as Flaming Trolls go. I can handle them. ;)

Can I add my opinion about your exhaust option from my own experience?
I had the AWE quad tip and it is LOUD!!!! I just had the stratmosphere (non resonated) quad tip installed and fitment is great and it's nice and quiet (I can't imagine how quiet the resonated one is) plus about half the price. Just to help you save your ears and a lot of cash for something else on the list.

I will get some pics soon for you of the stratmosphere, But the AWE is extremely loud!! especially if your running TP and maybe HFC. I have had passengers complain a lot
Good luck with your build. If you're looking for advice as you said, only go APR if you want the quality of the components. Because the way these guys work is that they'll really be attentive when you're buying something from them. Once you've dropped your cash you'll find that they'll quickly forget about you. Take it from me, nothing happened when I ran into issues with my kit. And when you go with a full kit you will want great customer service and theirs is probably the worst. Don't believe me? I sort of did the same..... on my last 3 cars I got sick of modding up until the day i sold it, SO for my audi I purchased it and did all my mods within (2) months. It was a very expensive 2 months and I realized I wish I would have only done half the mods I did and saved the other 1/2 of my money. But I am looking forward to your pics.
After owning 4 modified cars by the time I was 24, I am getting sick of "Builds"

This is what I want. A deep exhaust note that is not too loud. I also want the quad tip. Right now AWE is what looks the best but I have heard that it is too loud. I have watched all of the videos posted by those that have it and you can't really tell how it will sound. I would really like to hear it in person.

Spend enough time on here seeing the same stuff posted time and time again, and you will do one of four things:
1. Give up and stop coming by/posting/reading threads
2. Somehow have patience and stick around and be helpful (very few of these members around. The people who are most helpful now are those who recently got everything figured out, and are eager to share their knowledge)
3. Troll your ass off. Have some fun.
4. Get a new car and move on.
I went with 3 and 4. One not by choice.

Thanks man! My mods may slow down a bit so that my savings can recover. It would also be nice to enjoy the mods for a bit before adding more. I am not sure what my next step will be...
here is what I was thinking...
A) ABT lip kit, Vorsteiner hood and a 3 piece spoiler.
or

Thanks man! My mods may slow down a bit so that my savings can recover. It would also be nice to enjoy the mods for a bit before adding more. I am not sure what my next step will be...
here is what I was thinking...
A) ABT lip kit, Vorsteiner hood and a 3 piece spoiler.
or
B) High flow cat/downpipe, HPFP, exhaust and stage 2+ APR tune.
Decisions decisions...
My vote would be B. I am not a fan of the ABT lip.

I have also been toying with the idea of a DTM conversion kit. But that would require a lot of work and money. Just the kit alone will run me $2000. Not to mention installation and paint.

Haha Yea, I was gonna say, maybe try pacing yourself with the mods, it'll give you more time to enjoy each one and allow your savings to cope.
As for the next mods go for option A. Since you've just done some performance mods, enjoy them before adding more performance, you'll enjoy it more if it's spread out over time. Also you'll notice it more since you won't be doing all the performance in basically one step. Normally i would still recommend 'go' over 'show' but now is the season for looks. Our summers are stupid short and these sunny days won't last long. If ever you plan on doing body work now's the worthwhile time, not so much when it has a layer of winter all over it...

I have also sent funds to a fellow AZ'er for his 3 piece spoiler.
I am also expecting a snub mount from 034Motorsport some time today

Ok... This could be a good thing or a bad thing. Driving out of the gas station on my way home I hear a clunk and then open exhaust noise roaring from under my car. I haven't crawled under to have a look yet but me thinks the AWE quad tip exhaust may have been taken off the back burner...
I'll have to have a peek under while I am installing the snub mount that just arrived.

Ok. Change of plans. I originally planned on getting the AWE quad tip exhaust, but changed my mind once I read enough reviews where people were saying it was too loud and droned. So I have pulled the trigger on a quad tip resonated Stratmosphere exhaust. It is over $400 cheaper which will allow me to get an 034 Motorsports high flow cat in the future.
Opinions? Think I made the right move?

Absolutely, the HFC will make the biggest difference. Most cat-backs have a margin of HP difference that is really small. You'll see "nicer" gains with the HFC. Did you ever get your tune yet? If not, you should consider doing this with your exhaust upgrade. What's another $5-$6 Bills....the smile will be worth it. Guaranteed!!
Nice job on your build. Looks good.

The good news:
Just received my 3 piece spoiler and I will be getting it painted and installed shortly.
The bad news:
Just received my CF valance and it looks like it has been through a trash compactor. Four noticeable cracks in the CF, and the box looks even worse. It was shipped in a plain cardboard box with a sleeve of bubble wrap around it.
What is me best coarse of action for this? I bought it from eBay and already contacted the seller. I guess I will have to wait and see. The biggest problem is my quad tip exhaust should be here soon and I need the valance... ARGH!!!

Just got off the phone with Stratmosphere and apparently the quad tip resonated exhaust currently offered on the website is no longer available. On top of that they have been having problems with their systems there and my order got lost.
So to try to make things right, they will be Frankensteining me a kit. Using Miltek parts from the front section on a 2.0T A4 and an S4 rear section. I have no idea what this is going to sound like. I hope it will be subtle and deep. They will be calling me back with more of a game plan shortly.
This kinda sucks since my 034 HFC is sitting on the workbench waiting to go in...

So I put it on last night in my driveway like all of my other mods...
I never want to do that again. The rear was on ramps and the front was on jack stands. My 6'3" 250lb frame did not fit under there without a lot of effort. My whole body aches.
Here are some comments on the install:
All of the parts had supplied hardware to do the install. The only thing I had to reuse was the 4 nuts on the Turbo. Getting the OEM cat and downpipe was not too bad. I just undid the midpipe clamp and it pulled out through the engine bay. So I thought I could connect the 034 HFC to the Strat downpipe. WRONG! I ended up pushing the HFC into the top of the engine bay first and then crawling under the car and connecting them with the 3 supplied bolts from 034. Then pulling the whole assembly back up and connecting it to the turbo. 3 out of 4 nuts went back on without having to go under the car. the 4th was a bit difficult to get to from under. Once that was on the midpipe and mufflers went on without too many issues. I used my jack to lift the midpipe up into position while I bolted it up. The mufflers went in pretty easy. If I had to give it a difficulty rating, I would have to say 7/10 or 8/10.
I still have to make some adjustments to the system. The hangers for the midpipe sometimes touch my driveshaft causing a scrape/rattle sound. I'll see what I can do without having to take it to a shop.
I took a bunch of pics last. I'll get them uploaded as soon as soon as I can.

I got the 332mm Brembo kit from PureMS along with some 15mm spacers. This was so that the OEM 17" rims would clear. They fit perfectly. I was not aware there was an issue with cracked rotors. If that is true then I'm sure the Brembo warranty will cover it.
