Went to Lexus yesterday... to look at the IS (not for me) and I asked the sales men... Whens the new body coming out? He said, O in a couple more years. Funny thing is, Ive seen the pictures to the new body already and its everywere else. I know there just trying to make the sale, but they deny so much stuff..

Then of course he explains car things like if my mom was 3 years old, Im always like.. buddy we know the difference in metalic paint or not. They take the car options to the next level, as if we were actually getting something amazing...

Went to bimmer, and everytime the guy mentioned something, I was like... "Yea Audi has that too, but better. Audis system is better than that..."

I love pissing them off [:D]

The famous.. "You need to buy the car TODAY, if not It will be gone by the weekend and I cant do the same deal..."

My smart ass answer always is... Even if we come in 2 weeks, Im sure you can get me even a better deal... so we dont need to rush or bullshit me.. lol

I still believe that most salesmen at dealerships are not true enthusiasts. If they were, they would know as much info as we would. They study the current material and try to market it out the best they can. That includes trying to impress people with simple features. Best thing a potential buyer can do is learn about a car before they visit the lot. Helps to determine bogus info.

Its hillarious when you call them out on crap.

I was told it was a fwd car when it was actually rwd, just stood blank, laughed and told them to learn the car before trying to sell it.

my favorite is the:

what will it take for you to drive home today in a new car?

i always tell them, "give me twice the value of my trade, discount the new car, and throw in a hooker."

yea, we were at the dealer lookin for a car for my buddy (wants 1.8t, doesnt care what car) we told the salesman that he couldnt spend more than 200 a month, so around 10000, while we were looking at a 2003 passat... he talked him into test driving it, he said "so you think we could work something out today? (on a 17999 car)...

do they not get the point? he point blank said he couldnt afford anything over 225.... then has

You guys expect to much from a commission only car salesman. I'd probably rather not put forth the effort to sell a $10,000.00 car. That's why he tries to upsell you. Work is work, they aren't having fun either.

This is why you find the car you want and then use fax and phone to complete the deal. The you don't need to look at a sales guy.

I've realized that the more expensive the car, the less they try to haggle you into buying a car that very day, and the less expensive the car, the more they try that "what will it take for you to take home one of these babies, today?"

This is very true. The only salesperson I've gotten along with was Desmond at Rector and he was an enthusiast hardcore. He was always honest with me and never lied to me about model information or upcoming models etc.

I agree with audia403... High class dealers dont push anything. But then again, the dealer doesnt want sales men that annoying the hell out of you..

You go over to honda.. and they will grab you so you dont leave the dealer without a car.

I remember looking for a car with my dad, all the places looked at him funny because of the way he looked and dressed. The only people that were nice was the guy at Volvo, he even let us test drive it, without him having to be there. It was pretty cool, i remember always wanting to go there to test drive cars, they always let us too. It was so much fun. Wow, i wish we still did that.

I know some car salesmen that are true enthusiasts, and they are a pleasure to deal with. The guy who sold me my car knew everything about it, answered all of my questions correctly and honestly, and was an all around nice guy. The guy who I bought my old audi from, and who my sister bought hers from, also knew everything about the cars and gave us an excellent deal. My dad and I went in there one time to take a look at some porsches and he tossed us the keys to a 911 turbo, no questions asked, and he didn't even go with us. We didn't even ask to drive the car, he offered! It's all about finding the right sales guy and establishing a relationship.

That's so it.
I've met a great salesguy, he's real young and appreciates the younger crowd coming into the dealership. No issues ever with test drives, answers everything and will get back to you so quickly with anything. Having a good relationship sure helps the whole car buying process, and now that he started a leasing company can get any type of car through him.

I went to a VW dealer looking for GTIs / Jettas, used. I walk in, ask if they have any used on the lot. The salesman says no, and asks if I were to be interested in a brand new car. I specifically told him I was only interested in a 1.8t car, but he seemed to be pushing a TDI Jetta on me. He wouldn't stop with it either, with payment plans and whatnot. He told me that leasing a new car and then buying it after the lease is up is cheaper than buying a used car because of interest rates. I felt like slapping him, I am not dumb, I know what I want and what to stay away from.

Another dealership, I saw a 1999 A4 2.8. It was listed at 12,999. I took it on a test drive, brakes felt terrible and the tiptronic transmission was extremely sluggish. Not to mention various lights were out all around the car, such as reverse. The check engine light was on too. I asked the salesman why it's on, he said they just got the car in, and didn't have time to run it thru certification or something like that. Then I go online when I got home and saw that car has been for sale at the dealer for several months. I couldn't believe how he straight up lied to me like that.

Salesman just plain out don't care what you really want at most dealers. You can tell them one thing and they try to persuade you into a 'good deal' which turns out to be crap.
