VAG-COM USB or COM? [Archive]

well i have never used VAG come before but I kinda wanna get it before doing anything to my car.

Do I really need the newest version?

Which one should I get. Do I really need Hex or will Key?

USB or COM?

should i just get OBD-II cable and go with the 311.2?

I personally have the USB. Reason for getting it was if I ever upgraded my laptop in the future, i wouldn't have to worry about a serial port, considering almost all laptops have USB, and only some have serial ports (COM). I've used it on multiple cars, and it works fine on all of them.

What year A4?

I bought a USB for the same reasons as richsnipe, hex version for compatibility with new Audi's.

It's nice to have, but I don't actually use my Vag-Tool that much. Maybe you should save your money for another mod and find someone in your area with a Vag-Tool

Well, I have a 2005 1.8T MT. I'm looking for a laptop as well since I don't have one. Someone I know works at sony and they have some killa deals on laptop.

I really do question whether I really need VAG. I just want to know what is wrong with my car when light comes on and be able to check out timing and things like that cuz problems are bound to come up when tuning starts.

I don't think that home-made style OBD-II cable and 311.2 works on the CAN bus....? You should confirm with Ross-Tech before buying.

I know what you mean about checking all those CEL's, but since I took the plunge and bought my vag-tool I stopped getting the CEL's [mad][:p]
