Im already at stage 1 with APR. For those of you that have went from stage 1 to stage 2+ what did you spend? Id be looking to go with the 034 HFC and APR HPFP. Thanks for any experience you would like to share.

Well it's pretty easy, all depends of what you buy and how much you pay.

exhaust = X amount of $
hpfp = Y amount of $
034 HFC = Z amount of $

now use this formula to get the result X+Y+Z=Stg 2+ [wrench]

Merry Christmas!

I spent $60 on a VMR testpipe from eBay and $50 to upgrade my software from Revo. Pretty cheap, however, I also custom fabricated a manual turbo-back AWE quad exhaust to fit my auto tranny for $1500 when it was all said and done!

you may also want to consider an exhaust as well as at LEAST a k&n air filter.....while the OEM air box is very efficient on its own, the stock air filter is pretty large and restrictive (about the size of a phone book)

exhaust would not be feasible for a while. I will probably get a drop-in filter next oil change. Your formula PSIA is good and pretty much where Im at, but install prices are what I need now.

the hpfp should costs about 1.5 hours of installation costs (you can even do this one as a DIY)

the hfc (to save money on instal) should be installed with a full exhaust ....which i just had mine installed a few days ago which was rated at 3.5 hrs of install

air filter you should be able to do in 5-10 minutes....

cost to go stage 2 + is around 100-150$ on top of a stag 1 tune (but you already have that in your sig_

the HFC is about 1.5 hours of install if you just get that part put in (at least thats what my test pipe install cost was).....be prepared to spend an extra 30 bones for gaskets n hardware

How often after going stg2+ should one check their cam follower, i heard it was every 3 oil changes; any truth?

Cheapest way out to effective stage 2. Air filter/intake. Either a HFC or a test pipe. Then a Electronic Cut out. and you should be all set once you get the ECU reflashed.

Best regards,
Sean.

On a somewhat related side note... I was contemplating going Stg 2+ myself and picking up the AWE HPFP kit but they seem to not carry it any longer. Any reasons? I tried asking AWE in one of their threads but no answer.

I don't know if it cost money to go from stgI to stgII, but I know for a fact that there
is a $150 charge to go from stgII to stgII+. I believe $50 is for the HPFP re-flash, and
the $100 is for the HPFP install labor. This obviously doesn't include the $1000 APR HPFP.
Like said above, you can grab a test pipe for under $100, can spend anywhere from $400ish
to over $1000 on exhaust, and can spend very little money on a K&N air filter, or you could
spend $350 on a cold air intake. With just a stgI tune, to add an air filter/ exhaust/ HPFP /
re-flash to a stgII+ tune will cost anywhere from ~$1300 to $3000.

Wow it costs way more than I realized to go from stgI to II+.

Cheapest route - $650 for HPFP rebuild, $60 TP, $400 custom exhaust, $150 for re-flash/ install ~$1300

Pricey route - $1000 HPFP, $300 HFC, $1000 exhaust, $350 CAI, $150 re-flash/install $2800.. you could easily break $3k.

Haha, definitely check it often.. every two or three oil changes sounds reasonable. It really depends how much you beat on your car though

JR@RSW told me he used to check the follower on his old GTI every 3K miles.. I don't think I will be checking mine that often.

Also, don't wait around to change your oil every 10k miles or 1 year like Audi states. That's just silly on a modded car.

Thinking of just adding a HFC on my ride. Currently have APR flash and APR cat back exhaust. Think I will see much gain after adding a HFC? will I need a reflash?

Hfc is good for about 25hp. You will need the. Stage 2 flash to clear your CEL.

hfc is good for maybe 10 hp (10 is stretching it, 25 is a myth)....you honestly will not notice much difference in top speed (hp gains) vs what you will notice with the reclaimed torque you will see

I am a bit confused about the stages.Stage 1 is ECU reflash, stage 1+ is exhaust and filter? can anyone shed a light. Some say that stage 2 is bigger OEM turbo i.e. K04 turbo.

psiaddict85

Stage 1: Ecu
Stage 2: Ecu, Intake, Exhaust, HFC or Test Pipe
Stage 2+: all of the above + HPFP and appropriate software
Stage 3: Big Turbo

Nobody mentioned intercooler yet, I thought thats a must for stage 2

stages are not full on requirements.....its just an easier way to lay out performance upgrades so that you can compare what you have and where you are in the modding timeline that is your car

nothing is must-have (although ims ure some people may disagree with the hpfp) but the break down is that software is what allows you to capitalize on your physical modifications on yoru car

example would be removing the stock cat on your car, sure you will notice a difference in performance but to truly get the most out of that part the software must be flashed to accept the fact that the engine now has a more efficient exhaust and therefore can be pushed a little bit harder

the stages just help people with what the software is programmed to respond with

stage 1 - basically just software telling the engine to work harder then normal at a higher psi

stage 2 - at this point you should have let the car 'breath' (better exhaust, better cat option, k&n panel filter at least, smoother IC piping with larger core(s)) and the software should reflect this, i know some people say that there is no performance gains in terms of PSI but my unitronics chip from stage 1 flash was peaking at around 18 and the stage 2 flash peaks at around 22-23 so your call on whether or not the stage 2 flash adds performance or simply just recognizes the newer parts

stage 2.5 - HPFP solution, with the car now able to overcome the fuel cut issue the stock turbo can now be pushed to its limits and software should reflect this

Hmmm 10hp with a HFC....I don't need more top end, but increased torque would be niiiiice.

I don't know how APR's stage 2 works but REVO's stage 2 upgrade software is a $50 upgrade.

So since you have stage one all you need for stage 2 is a test pipe/high flow cat and the stage 2 software

VMR's test pipe is like $60 so going stage 2 will cost you $60 + APR stage II price

Stage 2+ requires a High Pressure Fuel Pump. Those range from $300-$1000+. I'd go with the APR rebuild for $600.

the torque is ALMOST as night and day as the first time you get your car chipped with stage 1 software....very pleasant back of the seat feeling that makes your car fun to drive again

Might depend on the shop. But my APR Stage II tune was free.
