I picked up a K03 turbo off a friend a few days ago. Its got about 80k on it, vs my cars 170k. It appears to have some shaft play (up and down + in and out). My 2 questions:

-Whats an acceptable amount of shaft play for these units?
-How can I identify it as an "s" model? My cars an 01 with the factory k03s so it would seem useless to put this one in if its not an "s"

My car currently spikes at about 16psi and holds 13/14. When I first got chipped it would at least spike 20psi and hold about 15/16

Look for the part numbers if they are identifiable.

Best regards,
Sean.

you have a boost leak my friend! get that checked out first and foremost. if you are chipped it wont make any difference if its an s or not.

There is a tag on the compressor housing. If it says K03-005, that is regular K03 (97-00). If it says K03-029, that is the "K03s" (2001-2005, and some 2000).
