There is another thread on here that was going around yesterday on this issue that I replied to. Link here (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/353541-2.0T-Timing-Belt-Noise.)
From my understanding the noise is caused by the contracting and expanding of the timing belt cover. Basically in the cold it contracts and just barely touches the belt causing a chirping noise and once the car heats up the cover expands thus eliminating the chirp. This is a very common problem on the GTI's. I know my MKV GTI had the chirp and it drove me nuts, but so far my A4 isn't doing it @45k.

You probably have a problem with the cam follower high pressure fuel pump. Strange sound when it appears on the back of the motor. For the diagnosis of high-pressure plunger pump is necessary to remove the logs in the group of measurements 103, 140, 230 (VAG COM). If at the maximum load on the engine - 3800-5000 rpm - to the third transfer of the fuel pressure falls below 105-100 bar, probably Cam Follower destroyed.
This is very dangerous because it wiped cam follower camshaft scratch. Replacement of the camshaft is very expensive work.

In fact, the problem of cam follower wear in Russia began to appear very often in recent times. Usually there is error 012555 - Low Pressure Fuel regulation, but not limited to it. An example of the cam follower, who did not fall apart completely - http://www.audiclub.ru/forum/showpost.php?p=4559891&postcount=100. What happens at the same time - cam follower breaks into pieces, fly inside the back cover of the phase-shifter and cause damage. In this case, the rod cam follower starts to grind camshaft and spring breaks a hole in theback of cover . Replacing the rear cover gaskets, cam follower or the entire high pressure fuel pump, camshaft - easily recruited to $ 2000.
The reason for this cam follower wear - during the oil change. We concluded that the oil should be replaced at least 7000-8000 km, or tracking does not receive proper lubrication oil thickened.
One of the topics discussed tracking where the cam - http://www.audiclub.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=166219&highlight=%F8%F2%EE%EA+%F2%ED%E2%E4&page=4
There are solutions from AWE and KMD:

But the oil should be changed no less than 7-8 thousand km.

Wow... I'm surprised. I never looked at those buttons. It's interesting how sometimes you don't see the very obvious things [:o]
