the pan you are looking for is 8D0-863-821-N. the number you gave is not a valid part number.

I think the number "some guy" gave you is off by one digit. It should be 8E0863821, which is a belly pan off a B6. Which I'm pretty sure will not fit. Although it is probably reasonably close.

you don't really need to run one if you don't want to. They don't offer much in the way of protection from anything, though i seem to remember reading someplace that they do help funnel air up into the engine compartment and help improve gas mileage (though i'm not sure i believe the latter)

Any of the B5 will work. The Passat W8 also works, and is substantially thicker then the others.

Also...for everyone else, I highly recommend running the belly pan. While it provides no impact protection, what it does do is allow you to slide off of something rather then it getting hung up on your oil filter, crevices, etc.

Well also it protects your engine from sand and little rocks that can get in and mess up things, or when you drive in snow.. and

Yeah I guess I will tell him it doesn't fit my car.
