Do you plan on modding your exterior more? Your car looks pretty stock. That's why it would be tough to pull off a crazier color.

Yes I will put a dtm carbon spoiler on the trunk and few other mods.I think that red is ok! Due to the cross drilled and slotted rotors in front!

DTM spoiler will not fit your non s-line trunk. Try the 3-piece votex one.

Painting your calipers black or color matching to your car to ultimately prevent rusting and rapid brake dust adhesion makes perfect sense, but painting them a BBK-centric red color to front like you're aftermarket is more played out than anything.

That's the point, our brakes are ugly because of the poor finish. IMO, the best thing to do is match/blend them or hide them, not turn them into one of the more prominent aspects of the car by making them pop from behind the wheel with bright red paint. Black, silver, gray (depending on car color)... any of those would be better.
It's your car, do whatever you want, but I think it looks cheesy:

I do have the rears painted now too. I don't want anyone to think I have aftermarket brakes, and I like the look. There needs to be some contrast in my wheels to accent my stormtrooped look. There are a lot of people out there like Event who hate it unless it's on a $3000 set of brakes. I like it, depending on color of car. What is truly trashy is when you see a car with painted drum brakes. Makes me laugh every time.

i don't like red calipers. unlike the masses of elitists saying that VMR's and RS4 reps are played out on our cars (nigga, this is a website forum. just because you see 20 people with the same wheels as you in different cities/countries doesn't mean you're copying anybody. i guarantee that no matter what VMR's you get, you'll be one of a select few in YOUR area that has them on an audi. not to mention the best way to set yourself apart is to personalize your stance, not your wheels), red calipers are played out on EVERY car. every ricer, every truck, every lightly modded car has red calipers.
on a silver car, i would paint them silver, black, or green. (i think green has a nice contrast to silver) blue might look good, too.
mr shickadance
12-18-2010, 06:54 PM
my personal opinion on painting these calipers is not that it deceives people or anything. but the painted calipers like a brembo kit or a stop tech kit look good because only a little bit of a brake dust (compared with our brakes or cars that feature our type of calipers) gets onto those calipers.....they have a sealed caliper and it helps them stay cleaner for longer periods of time.
when people paint their calipers here yea they look great initially but after about 200 miles when they are covered in brake dust they just look awful and cheap.

Probably not, but some would think that your trying to imitate a bbk, or deceive them, and probably mock you for it. I agree with those who say red is played out, and I don't think it looks good on small standard calipers. I'm gonna do mine silver or black, because they're not that pretty to look at no matter what color there in..

People are fucking dumb, and don't know shit about cars. I have had so many people ask me if my car is an S4. 95% of people just don't know anything about cars. It's all about looks to me. I don't care if 1 guy out of 10,000 people I drive by thinks it's gay, it's worth it in my opinion to look good driving by the other 9,999 people that week.

Imagine that I used to work in Audi dealership and even the colleagues there don't know many things about Audi.Very sad. Many times I came across different opinions. For example when I changed my coilpacks with something better (from the TT 225) my colleagues told me that the car will have misfires and all these shit. The same happened when I flashed the ECU and liked to change the OEM diverter valve with the S3's DV.They told me that this would not work!!! I changed it and everything was ok (till I got a forge valve). So to be back to your words, I believe that the car will have a more striking appearance and also a lot of people will not be able to understand. People here are not able to distinguish the truth from the immitation on these matters unless they know very well. So my opinion is to paint them red (blue is for VW's R Line). I am sure that the result would be very nice if this is done correctly.

I agree with what jim said. I dont think it is trying to imitate a BBK, and maybe its played out of forums but not real life. I enjoy rolling up to red lights and having people not be able to stop starring at my wheel/brake set up, and ive even had a 40-50 year old guy driving a 911 turbo roll down his window to complement me on the breaks. I say do what YOU want cause thats really the only opinion that matters.
event
12-20-2010, 12:09 AM
The point isn't whether you're imitating so much as the stock calipers are small and have a bad finish, not ideal for painting "look at me" red.
Not played out in "real life" is hard to swallow too. Really wondering where you live where you don't see TONS of beater Honda, Nissan and various American cars with red painted OE calipers, or even worse painted front calipers and rear drums. Also, ever think that the people "staring" at, or "complimenting" you are actually being condescending, especially the ones in cars that come stock with properly painted BBKs? You might be seeing and/or hearing one thing, when a bit more to it.

Sure as hell they are, atleast most of them. And as you said, why care about those who dont know anything about cars. Though, a lot of those who actually DO will think it's rice to paint stock brakes, especially if the car is pretty much standard. Im not trying to make you unpaint your brakes, have full respect of you having your own taste and all that. Just saying.. And I'm not really with you on that last point. More important, in lack of a better word, for me is what those who aren't stupid thinks about my car. If 1 out of 100 that know anyhing about cars gave me a compliment, that would mean more to me than 99 people that don't know shit hating it. I know neither one of us is doing our cars for other people though, so to each his own! Thumbs up for anyone sticking with there own taste, I'm just giving my opinion.

I know what you mean as far as the finish, but if you use the G2 caliper paint with two coats you get rid of most of the texture. The rattle can paints are much thinner than the G2 epoxy and will not fill in the texture.
Personally I like the red, but we are all entitled to our own taste and opinions! ...even if they are wrong.. lol

Yeah....I used a metal brush with some caliper cleaner and scrubbed the calipers....cleaned them, let them dry thoroughly, then I put 2 coats of the G2 caliper paint (non-rattle can)....the finish came out looking really good - nice, thick coat.

So, today, after collecting all the necessary paints, cleaners, sandpapers and clearcoat I woke up 7 o' clock in the morning and decided to proceed to my calipers painting. You can see by yourself the result (for the front brakes only, since I was a bit tired.I will continue in the afternoon) :
Step 1
I used the sandpaper to remove a large amount of the old black paint

Step 2
I used carburator and injection cleaner to degrease everything

Step 3
Carefull masking with plastic bags from super market and 2 coats of primer

Step 4
First and second coat of red paint (rattle can spray for high temperatures) total coats 5, and after 2 hours, 3 layers of clear coat, unmasking, and carefull cleaning of the areas that were attacked by the color

Step 6
Installing of the wheels (forget the SUV look, the car is still jacked)

As soon as I finish I will post more pics with the rear brakes.Hope you like it!
i am really sorry if i sound like a complete ass btw
but why in the hell did you decide to leave the rotors on the car to paint them? have you had issues with the brakes sticking or anything? did you remove your caliper pins after this painting to remove the paint from them?
sorry but you even shot paint on the rotors as well and its not like its that hard to take the caliper off and do it properly.
you are right up there with this guy....

and maybe someone could jump in and correct me but wont carb cleaner eat rubber?
also notice why car painters dont use a plastic bag to mask a car...
after re-evaluating your pictures you got paint on EVERYTHING! holy sheet!! on your sig you should add "red control arms, red rotors, red brake lines, red fender liner, and red driveway" after red calipers....
