APR Stage II+ (B7) vs Stage I (B5S4) - Comparible power?

So I was wondering if the power was similar between a stage II+ (with hpfp, HFC) B7 and a stage I (just chip) B5S4. The S4 weighs about 200-300lbs more but at 91 octane has about 308hp, the B7 makes 280hp (91oct) but weighs less. Anyone have any personal experience with both?

I would say the chipped S4 has the edge in this case. Driver has an impact here though.

Never had the chance for this face off...but I would agree that the S4 should have the better chance.

According to APR, a B5 S4 with an APR chip (91oct) makes 307hp/366lb-ft.

According to APR, a B7 A4 with an APR chip (91oct) makes 232hp/273lb-ft. Now, you said "stage II+ (with hpfp, HFC)". APR lists no hp/tq figures for a HPFP or HFC. While they do add power, do they really add 50 crank horsepower over the 91oct chip to reach your stated "280hp"? 280hp from a K03 sounds overly optimistic, especially on 91oct.

On to the question...the power is not comparable. Even if we take your numbers the S4 still makes +30hp/+60tq, and if it is possible that the 280hp figure is inflated, then the S4 is up even more power. Performance wise the S4s added power easily overcomes its extra weight. All you have to do is look up 1/4mile times and speeds to see that chipped S4s run significantly quicker than modded stock turbo B7s. IIRC tuned S4s run low 13s, and i've only heard of a few stock turbo B7s hitting high 13s (and I guarantee it wasn't on 91oct).

coming from a stage 3 b5 s4, i can tell you the s4 will walk the a4 over and over again...

I'm not sure it's even worth comparison
One is a six cylinder biturbo and the other is only 4 with a puny snail.

I had a chipped avant s4 that I loved which I sold and was hoping the weight difference (I thought b7's were 3400lbs?) would make things a bit equal. APR said they were pretty similar when I called too :-/

280hp crank is still a pretty good number, was hoping for the same thrill as the b5 s4.
