Okay, so this has been annoying the crap outa me for a little while now. I noticed after about a week of having the car that every time I start the engine after its cooled off, there is a squeak from somewhere up on the serpentine. I brought it in to the dealer the first time, and they said they didn't hear it. The second time, they replaced the PCV (which was weird to me) and that didn't fix it. I brought it back and they kept it for four days and replaced the serpentine tensioner, and that didn't fix it so they then replaced a roller on the serpentine belt. It sounded like it fixed it because it didn't squeak the next morning I had it home. The tonight after it cooled off for three hours it is doing the squeak again. Could it be something I have to tolerate since its just the rubber of the belt expanding with the heat as the engine heats up?

Wouldn't matter if it did expand... Its still not normal. Get it fixed.

No other car just "normally" squeaks.

does it sound like a chirping noise? and once it warms up the sound goes away?

Yes, its a chirp that goes away when its warm. Usually the chirps are around 1 second or a little less apart. It takes usually a few minutes. But Im weary because Im about to drive from southern California to Chicago for two weeks, and then onto northern Virginia. So I'm sure that going away with heat will take up to 10 minutes as opposed to the 2 or 3 it takes now to make the squeak disappear. Im thinking the timing belt may be the logical thing to replace now?

Sounds like the issue I had, replacement of the acc belt fixed it.

I get this sometimes only in the winter, I did my timing belt maintenance so I dont know what it can be, but i do have issues with my engine mounts now do not know if they are related though.

it is your timing belt. i had this problem when i had my 2.0t so i brought it in and the shop foreman looked at it. He said its because the timing belt is dry or something to that effect. Mine was done at 35k miles

does the accessory belt need to be greased or anything of that sort?

updated* the audi dealer told me it was the accessory belt, however the noise seems to be louder more towards the center of the motor and the accessory belt is closer to the nose of the car which doesn't make sense...

Bump!

I have the same issue in my 2005.5. I read in a couple other threads this could be the timing belt, which I'm worried about because I only have 46k miles and do a 3 hour drive pretty often. Any suggestions?

I think it's your camshaft dampner

Looking at the picture here below showing the dampner:

Blue Arrow = Accessory belt track
Red Arrow = Dampner attached to the camshaft
Green Arrow = rubber

I think the accessory track is starting to detach from the rubber, creating the squeaking noise. Easy way to confirm is to trace a vertical line using white liquid paper between the arrows. Drive for a while and check again. If the white line you traced is not longer aligned, then you found your problem
