View Full Version : Easiest way to black out the trim

What's the easiest way to get the look of the Ti Package? I know I can either buy the actual pieces or plasti dip them, but both ways have their cons. I like the hyper sliver/ chrome look, but I LOVE the black/ gunmetal look and if I can't find a cost/time effective way I'll probably stick with the former.
p.s. I'm not a very hands on person, and my projects usually end up looking bad.

I just can't imagine me doing a good job on that. I'm one of those people that can't lay down tape for the life of me.

It's a pain in the ass and I consider myself kinda good at this kind of stuff. I have an Avant and the rear quarter has a very sharp curve that is a real nightmare. Do it in a warm place and use a heat gun and cut relief cuts to make it go around the tight curves. It's a tedious process to make it look good, it can be done.

Back from the dead.. Could I take it to a say, tinting shop and get it professionally done? Tinting windows is kind of the same concept as wrapping the trim.
I tried using some electrical tape and it looked OK. I don't know if I could drive around with electrical tape all over my car though.

Try a vinyl wrap place, I called one in my area to do my roof rails and they said they could do it, but I opted to use the bmwshadowline stuff instead and attempt it on my own. It won't be "cheap" as you initially requested though, that is for sure.

How easy is the shadowline stuff? I wouldn't mind paying the vinyl wrap place to do it if they can do a better job then me. As long as it's less then the $800 the actual Ti trim would cost to order it.

I've heard a tinting shop charged around $75 to do it from someone else.

Why do this to begin with? Chrome looks so much better.

I originally wanted the Ti look, but as I saw more Ti Quartz Greys I just started to not like the look of them anymore.
