Has anyone had any luck removing those things? I made a cursory attempt at doing so last night, but didn't want to break the damn things. Am I better off just leaving them on when I wrap my filler plate?

Yup. I did. Got satin black filler plate and removed the black strips and replaced with original chrome ones. I wanted a little color in the front.

It's pretty much what it looks like. Get a thin screw driver and slightly pry apart the tabs on the back. Start at one end of the stip and pry apart the two tabs on the end. I didn't really notice a click or anything that indicated the clips had released the strip, I just pryed gently. The real trick is to get it started. Once you get the stip started coming out from one end or the other, it's real easy to get it out of the clips.

So anyway, start with the two clips at one end; pry them out a little while pushing the strip out. Apply pressure from the back (that's what she said) to help release the clips. What finally did it for me was actually prying on the strip itself on the outside/front corner/end of the thing. Risky, as this is the part you see, but I was careful and able to get the end/tip of the strip to come out. Agian, once you get the end out and the first set of clips released, it's real easy from there. And of course, snapping it back in is beyond simple. You could do it with your feet.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks!

Oh, no. I took the $$ route and just got the OEM blackout grill from ECS. Comes without the filler plate, so had to buy that too.

I couldn't remove the strips either. So I just used masking tape to cover the chrome strips, and Plasti-Dipped the Platinum grey grille.
It was quite simple. Did about 3-4 coats. I prefer this over any of the black fillers because it appears more as a matte/flat black.

So I went from this: Platinum grey filler with chrome strips

Nice Ryan! I wasn't aware anyone else was rocking the black filler plate with chrome stips. Glad I'm not the only one. We're looking pretty close, though you've got what looks to be OEM Ti package with nice wheels and black window trim. Nice!

I've got black and silver thing going on and was actully loooking at the sliver mirror covers as well. Yours looks silver as opposed to chrome - which I like. Where'd you get them? OEM S4 silver mirror covers from ECS are prohibitively expensive.

My next adds are xenons with OEM Euro clear corner and either smoked or clear side markers. Great minds....

However my Ti look will be changing soon... My new set is going on this weekend. [>_<]

I was debating this as well ... I have the sline package and red calipers and thought it would set it off nice.
I am wrapping my filler plate with Helix Carbon wrap and wasn't sure if I needed to set it off with the red.

**Edited** I seem to remember someone with a gloss black filler plate and red strips. I would have no idea how to find that pic though.

ive been debating too. see i have red calipers, red wheel pinstripe, red lug covers and the audi rings on the center caps are red. i have a serious black/red theme goin.
it may be too much but if so im gonna CF wrap the center caps and perhaps the filler plate

yeah, so the strips on my car were brittle and I cracked one ... I have it glued back together but was looking for something similar to wood putty that I could fill the crack in and then sand down smooth.

P.S. instead of painting the strips, I wrapped them with some extra shadowline that I had. I never ended up wrapping my trim. It looks real nice. Pics tomorrow after I fix the second piece.
