View Full Version : Where to put the exhaust cutout ?

Currently ,I have straight 3" piping and remus exhaust at the back.
My plan is to put a 3" resonator and an exhaust cutout.
I want to quiet down the exhaust sound and want to have the race mode if needed.
So, I cant decide where to put the cutout :)
Where would you put the exhaust cutout ?

For the best results and "race mode," it should be right on or around the down pipe. Quiet/sleep mode would be your exhaust + resonator. Putting the cut out after the resonator is pointless imho.

what is a cut out? ;O

just before the exhaust tip so its completely pointless, instead of semi pointless just being after the resonator.

right behind the turbo, in front of the cat/testpipe.

The smoke in the cabin shouldn't be a problem as you will only really use it if your racing or something. Meaning not sitting at a traffic light lol. Mount it as close to the turbo as you possibly can. I'd pipe it down to the ground though lol. Or. You could buy a 2.8 drivers side transmission mount setup and pipe it to just in front of the resonator. The 2.8's have dual exhaust back to there so they have 2 of the same transmission mounts with plenty of space for exhaust. Although confirm that they mount to the subframe the same. I believe so.

yeah, on the manifold would probably be better.

point it to the floorboard on the passenger side to scare them.

He might pose danger to the manifold and his floor board will fall out.

Remus is the shi*t, I love their exhaust for german cars. I didn't think anybody had them for the B5 since they're so hard to find.

If you have a test pipe I'd see if you can make it fit there, otherwise right in front of the resonator would be good. If you did it in front of the resonator you probably wouldn't even have to pipe it down any further. If you put it in the engine bay right after the turbo or on the test pipe you'd probably want to pipe it out and there's not a lot of room for that.

It essentially lets you go "straight pipe" on demand. Here's a vid of a QTP Cutout on a B7 A4

I would definitely put it as close to the downpipe as possible, at least that's my plan when I install mine!

Thank you for the responces .. most of the people icluding me are thinking to put the cutout on the downpipe, I will do so :)
I will take a video for you guys who are thinking the same set-up. Yes...remus turbo is the shit ..so far, I used remus all my used cars.
I can post the exhaust anywhare in the U.S. however ,it will not be cheap :)))
