So lately since winter is here and the weather is dropping, im starting to have cold start issues. Rather than my car starting right away, the starter just keeps clicking without turning over for about 10-15 secs before the car actually starts really really slowly.

I have done some searching and found a thread from the s4s with similar issues and they state that either the starter is on its way out or the starter solenoid is going bad...

Anyone have any insights on this?

Never had this issue in the summer or warmer weather and this just started happening last week and it seems to take longer to start as the weather gets colder. This is also after car sits for a long period of time. After the first struggle to start, she starts up fine every time after that...

I have the same issue but doesn't take 10 seconds, just a few. Only happens in the winter when my cars been sitting for a while so I blamed it on the cold. Went away after the winter and came back this winter so I would say it's definatley not a mechanic issue since the problem disappeared. Just a cold start issue that is there either way.

I suppose so. The car does end up starting, my only concern is if it ends up dying out to the point where it doesnt start...

if you go to start it and it just clicks once then you have to cycle the key and it clicks once and it just does that for a few times before it starts i'd say starter is done.

if you just hold it on start and it clicks repeatedly then engages then clicks then engages over and over i'd say starter solenoid.

also check your battery leads make sure there's no corrosion and they are tight making a good connection. also go get a test done on it at a local auto parts store to make sure its still good.

I'd blame the coils first. Believe it or not, I had starting issues with a bad PCV. Search for my thread.

I would first check to see if the battery/charging system is up to spec and is still performing up to spec, i.e. CCA......

Also, allot of us here will actual turn the key to "ON" and let the fuel pump prime for 10-15 seconds before we start the crank, following this procedure will enable your engine to fire up with fewer cranks.

I won't have time to go see my mechanic and get it checked until this weekend, so I'll give this a try and see if that works until then. Thanks airborneriflema.

I'll also check for corrosion around the battery terminals. Thanks for the options bitskyline.
