When is everyone else putting their winter set on? I'm trying to wait before the first big storm before putting them on because I do a lot of highway driving and don't want to kill of tread life. I'm going from 235/45/17 all season(B6 sports) to 225/45/17(B5 S4) winter's. Should I be getting an alignment to avoid camber wear, even though they have 10/32nds tread life?

Any input is appreciated,

Thanks

To be honest I usually mount around Thanksgiving, but haven't done that this year. At this point I'd throw those on as soon as possible (esp considering parts of NE are getting snow today). Unless you are especially worried about the alignment I'd skip that as these winter roads can really foul up an alignment quickly.

And just to throw out a plug for winter tires. I use Michelin X-ice Xi2's and I just can't kill these things. I've done a whole lot of driving on them and they just don't wear down. It's gotten to the point that I have switched cars and want to go with a larger winter setup to accomodate larger brakes that I have sitting around, but my Michelin's have multiple seasons left on them.

Put my winter set on about 2 weeks ago. Once the temperature drops below 30, my summer tires become ice pucks and the ride sucks. Went from 225/40/18 on RS4 rims to 205/55/16 on A4 sports. Running Dunlop Graspics which ive used for three different cars now and they are still pretty good. Bad for cornering and rated to 100mph but handles snow like a champ.

will be ordering winter tires tomorrow. going on by next week. I love my 19's, but just dont have confidence in the Nitto Invo tires when the average temperature is in the 30's. PLUS, we had snow the other day in Keene, NH area and It's just my luck that a damn storm will come before I get the winter tires one. Already waited long enough.

Put on my winter wheels about two weeks ago. I usually wait until the temperature begins to steady < 40.

mounted on Dec. 22, 2010. Went with 225/45/17 Dunlop wintersport 3D's. so far, so good, but have only put 500 miles on them (mostly highway). Looking forward to some snow and slop and putting them to work.

It is kind of nice taking off the heavy 19's and putting stock 17's back on.....car handles and rides a bit better :)

Just tested mine out and they did very good climbing steep hills. Now I believe that any snow tire is better than the best all season.

definately agree. Glad I pulled the trigger on winter tires!
