Hey guys,
I need to buy a new floor jack, my 2.5 ton Craftsman jack is just, well...tired. I'd also like to go with a low-profile unit, to avoid having to drive my car up on 2x6's to get the jack under it. What brand(s) can you guys recommend? I read some reviews on the new Craftsman unit, it basically got 1 star on average...and was even called "un-safe". Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

I just bought a low-pro jack with stands for around 80 bones at the local checker auto.

I have had this bad boy for about 2 years now. sees quite a bit of use. never had to bleed it or anything. LED's are nice

I bought something very similar to this at my Advanced Auto Parts for $35 or so. I've only had to use it a few times, but it works very well.

On the other hand, the craftsman professional jack that i got lifts inconsistently and i dont feel safe using it. sears wont take this piece of shit back and it was 4 times the price of the harbor freight unit.

autozone and advanceautoparts don't have good jack, just get a low profile with fast lift. it's can cost more than $150, but it's a lot better than the cheap stuff.

I thought Sears took all Craftsman shit back, regardless of how you were using it?

i have this jack and the only negative thing i can say about it is that after a lot of use the led's cracked and broke under the weight of the car when jacking....other then that i love it and i feel pretty safe when lifting and lowering the car

How do you feel unsafe using the jack? Are you using the jack only and not jack stands to support your car?

I think we've all done that on occasion.

Can't say that I have. I've always used jack stands when applicable. The only time I would solely use a jack to lift/support a car would be if I needed to take a quick peek at something, something that I wouldn't have to stuck my head under the car for.

When you are lifting the car, it doesnt go up smoothly. its kind of like it is slipping ad just barely holding on. always seems like the car is just going to drop and second.
I ALWAYS use jack stands. so much can go wrong in a jack that makes it ridiculously dangerous to not use stands

The worst experience I've ever had regarding jacking up a car was using a small (2.5 ton?) jack I picked up from Harbor Freight several years ago. The jack worked fine but it got a little sketchy as it was maxing out (height-wise). Just felt that any input resulted in no output.
Good luck with your jack issue.
