It's all about preferance. Since you are in NY, you have a couple options. The easiest would be to simply use 5w30 all year round. I, myself, use 0w30 in the winter and 5w40 in the summer. Be sure to use full synthetic motor oil and change your oil at recommended intervals (not Audi recommendation) with the larger filters.

I run Rotella 5w-40 full synthetic year round. Run Pentosin if you can find it. Its pretty hard to find but if you can find it its worth the money.

5w-40 Summer
OEM Large Filters
3-4.5k miles

= No sludge
(Just popped my valve cover @115k, been following the above regiment since the car was bought off the lot)

I buy it over mobil 1 cuz it makes my lifter tick go away but mobil 1 doesn't

Is 15w40 okay to run? Any idea what the pros / cons of this weight would be over the traditional 5w40?

midnight oil, oreillys should have it for you right after the store closes.
