I know there's an avant subforum, but i figured the response would be better here. Last weekend i went out to the track for the first time, and just wanted to see how I compared and where i need to improve.
Car is a 2006 2.0t Avant, mods are vmr test pipe, apr 93, k&n cone/with true heat shield, and a cm FX400. my best run was 14.417. I had a full tank of gas, plus my spare, so i figure with a quarter tank and the spare out i could probably take off a little time. I was hoping to get closer to 14, but there's always next time.

is he in an avant? i remember seeing the spreadsheet at some point, but i cant remember if they specified sedan vs avant. i think everyone on that list was in a sedan..

yep, he's saloon. but there shouldn't be that much of a difference, right? weight being the only real difference?

weight's the main thing i think. from audiworld i dug up this: link if anyone is interested (http://www.audiworld.com/model/)
stock b7 2.0t sedan weight: 3549 lbs.
stock b7 2.0t avant weight: 3671
so the weight difference is about 122lbs. I dont know enough to know if this difference is substantial. and rough calculations concerning the weight of gas... a gallon weighing roughly 6.25 gallons, the avants gas tank weighing holding 16.6 gallons, total gas weight of about 100lbs. then figuring the weight difference of a sedan with a quarter tank of gas compared to an avant with a full tank, its about 200 pounds. does anyone know the relationship of weight to quarter mile times? ha..

Even small amounts of weight can make a difference. My car weighs in at 3600 even with no people in it, but with full interior, spare, speaker box. I add another 200ish lbs. I can tell a difference in performance when there is a passenger. Only slightly when it's my wife, but when it's a bigger guy, it's definitely hindering performance. Take out the rear seat and the spare next time if you are really trying to get good times. Smaller lighter wheels and tires will help too.

I always thought for street cara was about 0.1 seconds for every 100 lbs.

That is pretty much the thumb rule until you start dipping into the 11s or 10 seconds then it changes drastically. But should be pretty accurate for our cars :)

you sure kristokes has an avant? I was fairly certain he has a white sedan.... could be wrong... i spoke to him earlier this year and he showed me pictures.. and he's a fairly small guy so he isnt adding to much more weight to the car lol

Jimrobbington said he's saloon. Saloon = sedan.

so in the grand scheme of things, does a 14.4 stack up with my mods? or should closer to 14 be feasible?

How was your launch? I would think with your mods you should be able to get down closer to 14 flat.

are you Quattro or FWD?...
IMO 14.4 seem a little bit high... should be around 14.1-14.0.

What was your 60' time? and what was the trap speed, thats the real performance measure!

the avants are all quattro, so i'm always going to be stuck with all that drivetrain loss. my launches werent too bad, slow drops from about 4.5-5k. 60ft was 1.957 and i trapped at 95.25. i still feel like i should have been faster..

The B7 Avant has a better drag coefficient than the sedan version, for what it's worth.
