View Full Version : Advice needed!! WHEELS : TSW Nurburgring VS BBS CH Black Edition

So, my VMR V710 19' Matte Black were stolen last week and the insurrance company will buy me another set.

My car is S-line Imola Yellow with Ti pkg. I can either get a set of 19' BBS CH black edition with cheap Nexen tires, or go with TSW Nurburgring black with some better tires.

By their fact sheet, the TSW weights only 21 lbs compared to 27 lbs for BBS, and TSW looks more aggressive. BBS is solid and have SS rim protector, better brand so more popular.

what do you guys think? if im paying for them, I would buy the TSW, however I work in a VW dealership and we have a set of BBS sitting here for a long time and I have a really good deal on this set (at our cost).

Need to decide by tomorrow.

TIA

I'd go for the TSW just because of the weight. 27lbs is effin' heavy

yea get the lighter wheels, Christmas is around the corner and you'll be carrying enough weight around at it is. TSW are good wheels, i had a set on my c230 and loved them.

those tsw's look just like your old v710s.. so if you want the same look go with those but if you want something different get the bbs. cant ever go wrong with bbs, and your not really paying for them

I like them both, very different. Go with what YOU like. Who cares what others prefer. Either way, you've got two solid choices there.

YOu say that like quality of wheel doesn't matter. It'd be like saying, hey look, you choose between KW coilovers and a set you found on ebay for $40.

I would like the TSW's if the wheel quality close to that of BBS.

No question, BBS.

This shouldn't even be a question. Honestly... I can't believe people are comparing the quality of BBS to TSW. That's like a T-ball team playing against a major league team. Sure the little T-ballers might look cute out there on the field, but when you are putting your money on the game obviously you'd throw it on the big boys.

That said, I'd have to pick the TSW's. I'm such a jokester. No but really, get the friggin BBS for Natalie Merchant's sake. I mean God's. Is anyone listening to me still? I can't believe I'm still typing.

everyone bashes tsw and i dont understand why, just cuz BBS has a big name to them doesnt mean that TSW is a bad wheel; ive had 2 sets of TSW one on my old 540 and i have some now on my B7 and never had a problem with them, no paint chipping, denting, bending, etc

BBS might be a better quality but how much better is it really? its not a MAJOR difference and the price shows that, everyone knows you get what you pay for but sometimes just cuz its a big name your gonna spend more money

please explain how the quality of a TSW wheel is so terrible

TSW and BBS are both big name wheels. Look at how many car companies use BBS for their OEM wheels. Any of 'em use TSW? There really is no discussion on the subject. We are not saying TSW is a terrible wheel/company... we are just saying that there really isn't any comparison between that and BBS.

CH's all day. Those will look great on your Imola. The TSW's resemble the 710's too much unless you were truly in love with the look it would be cool to switch it up.

Go BBS dude. TSW's look identical to the old VMR's and the quality is so much higher in a BBS wheel.

I got a set of TSW for my B8 S4. It's my dd so I didn't want to spend $$$$. The Nurburgrings are fairly light wheels and I really like the look of them. I would agree that the BBS maybe higher quality wheels then the TSW, but for the price and as street wheels they fit the bill perfectly.

Just to play devils advocate, I have had 3 sets of BBS and two sets of TSW's. I never bent or cracked a TSW. I had two BBS wheels crack on me, one actually split in half.

Also, TSW has (i think) 13 different brands. One of which does actually manufacture OEM wheels.

Exactly why you wouldn't want to replace one if you smack it up. Stick with the lighter and cheaper wheels. Less costly to replace should shit happen.

Yeah that's the spirit. Your going to break shit eventually, so just go the cheaper route. Why wash the car, it will be dirty next week. Why take a shower, i'm just going to smell again.

This is why I don't wipe my ass after I poop...I'll just do it again later that day, or the next day.

What I meant was not onlyy will he be saving money, getting better tires, saving weight, and having less common wheels, if shit happens it won't hurt as much.

I am completely slammed at work. Like ridiculously slammed. Advertising + Black Friday = hella workload. Anyways, I checked Audizine (because sometimes, it's more important than work) and I see the thread title. If you don't get CH's, let me know and I'd be glad to give them a home for the holidays.

jayphil82

My 25.5 Lbs VMR feels really heavy and slow down the car quite a bit compare to the 17" stockers (even bracking seems affected). I would definitely go with a 21 lbs wheel over a 27 lbs wheel, since 27 lbs is just way to much.

I am guessing he has a set amount the insurance company is writing a check for. The question is more expensive wheels with cheaper tires, or less expensive wheels with more expensive tires. Even if he could buy what he wanted, he won't profit unless buying a used set of wheels that he somehow found for a steal, or wasn't planning on putting the wheels back on the car.

Besides, that is technically insurance fraud if you could pull it off.

It isn't fraud... If they give you a check it is officially your money. You can leave your car on blocks and pocket the money if you want. The same goes if you get in a wreck and they give you a check for repairs.

Fraud would be if you had a previous accident, and you claim that the new accident caused it and tried to get money/repairs done on it.

Invest in wheel locks too

Meh, wheel locks don't do much to stop thieves. Just slap a snug socket over them and you got yourself some new wheels in a few minutes longer than ones without locks. Just gotta sacrifice some sockets.

Just to add another to what I said before, since before was clearly a joke. You buy the BBS' used and when you are done with them, you can pretty much sell them for the same price. They hold their value. Shit, I'll likely turn a profit on mine.

I love all of these broad statements without anything to actually back them up.

If you look into both wheels (or just step back and read the first page) you will find that the TSW's are in fact lighter then the BBS's in this case.

Also, I would love to hear how many of you who throw out quotes like "quality over price" have actually owned wheels by both manufacturers.
