View Full Version : Cost to do Timing Belt.

Okay well its about that time i need to get the timing belt out of the way. I got an estimate from a place near me from a guy who specializes in Audi's for 1600 dollars. That sounds a bit steep to me. I told them this and they tried to explain to me that covers everything, rollers, tensioners, water pump, etc., etc. Anyway what do you guys think. Any suggestions or prices you guys got to get this done.

$1,600? not bad at all I got mine done for about $2,000, but also had a little more work done to mine. Got TB, tensioners, rollers, thermostat, water pump, both O2 sensors, both upper control arms. Dealer ship told me they wanted about 1,500 for jus the thermostat and the TB. Do a search, find out what others have paid. If i were you, i'd have the guy do it.

Are you guys nuts!!!????? Way to high!

TB full service job should be from $850 to $1000 max. When I got mione done I spent $2000 for the following:

Full TB Service
Repair leaking valve
Repair leaking gasket
Replace all engine mounts
New Plugs

I bought the parts from ECS tuning for less than $300 and had a local shop put it all on for me for $200. You need to check around and see how much someone will charge if you buy the parts yourself from somewhere like ECS.

^^^^ Ditto for me. I paid ~$220 for the parts and ~$220 labor. That's including the water pump since most people replace it while they're there.

yo, try and find a friend who knows a bit about cars, or maybe someone here on AZ who is mechanically inclined that is near you. Get the ultimate timing belt kit off of ECS, the link to that is in another thread floating around rihgt now, i posted it up for someone earlier. The kits 275 i think + shipping, so 300 for ALL THE PARTS YOU NEED. Even still, if you take that specialized Audi mech. you are talking about hes got to come down on that price hardcore. the MOST he could charge is like $750 labor and if he does punch him in the mouth!!!

actually to speed up the process heres the link for you, i lied, its 280 bucks lol. http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?searchstring=timing+belt&searchqt=byvehicle&make=Audi&model=B5+A4&submodel=Quattro&engine=1.8T

Dealer quoted me around 800 or so. One independent shop in the area quoted me 5-6. A supplier of mine said 4 for everything [:D]

hmmm, what kind of supplier are you referring to lol... im just playing man. are you talking strictly labor or with all the parts and all? if its for everything none of them are really that bad, but if its jsut labor i prolly would have jumped at the 5-6 number, but hell, 400 is where its at
