What could cause my car to throw me a CEL even though its driving the exact same as it was the day I bought it? My guess is something with the exhaust because I hear something under the car jingling when I hit small bumps in the road. This whole waiting for my VAG-COM cable to arrive is KILLING MEEEEEE

Go to an AutoZone or auto parts store and get your car scanned.

When you get them search on here. Or post them on this thread.

its most likely your o2 sensor, do you have a test pipe?, does the code come right back?

I think the mechanic said something about a test pipe when he had my car in the air for the tbelt. But this is the first cel I've seen in the 500 miles I've put on the car. I'm wondering if the fact something underneath my car started rattling last night has anything to do with it

pop open your hood, you see if you have a test pipe of not, no need to raise the car

I talked to the mechanic again, he said that there is a small cat at the top but it looks like I'm missing the main cat at the bottom?

There is no top or bottom cat.
Pop your hood, between your engine and the airbox, you will see either a straight pipe 2.5"-3"
or you will see a bulky stock cat.....

No need to bother your mechanic about it.
