Have a stock (brakes wise) B6 S4 and am looking to upgrade the brake pads, mainly for superior initial bit and less resistant to fade. I was told by raceshooper.com that Ferodo DS2500 (the pads I am interested in) only fit the front, but not the rear. I have seen multiple posts where people have matched the DS2500 with the Carbotech Bobcats. However, the coefficient of friction for the DS2500 is .5 where the bobcats are .45. I also know that Hawk HP are .51. Maybe Carbotech AX6 would be a better match? Would any of these combinations affect the braking bias at all? Any information would be grateful. BTW, fluid is upgraded to RBF600 and I know the DS2500 dust, but that does not matter.

I think mixing Bobcats on the rear is no problem - the main thing is to not have a higher performing pad on the rear than the front. But I'm curious - why not go with Bobcats all around? Also - you're aware that the Bobcats shouldn't be used with rotors that have been previously used with non-Carbotech pads, right?

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I am aware that Carbotech pads need new rotors. Getting new ones all around. The reason I am not going with the Bobcats all around is because of their initial bite. I used to have Hawk HP pads and while they were a good pad once heated up, when driving on the highway for an extended period of time and having to slam on the brakes, the bite was not there. Hence why I went back to OEM, for the intial bite. I have heard and seen the friction chart for DS2500 and it carries the consistent friction coefficient of .5 throughout all temperatures. That's why I wasn't sure if using the AX6 pad would be wiser because the friction is a little closer to the DS2500, but not over.

So mixing wouldn't be a problem though?

Shouldn't be. The recommendation I received from Carbotech for my track set up was XP10's in front and XP8's in the rear, so that brake bias would continue to favor the front. I know there are guys at the track who just run OEM pads in the rear and race pads up front. Given that the fronts do the majority of the braking - perhaps you should consider OEMs in the rear with the Ferodo's up front?
