Hey guys - just was curious about skid plates / want to make my own before winter / want some suggestions!

If anyone has pics of their home made ones and could post them up that would be really helpful - dimensions would be doubly helpful haha.

I dont have a stock skid plate, or i would just take that and make one similar...

Let me know what you guys have!

I'm running with no skid plate, but I'm trying to get funds together for a Panzer before winter hits.

I run the stock plate, but I plan on doing a custom aluminium for next winter.

I say Panzer! They even sell them at Midwest Motorworks, so you can even swing by and purchase one before heading to St.Cloud. I'm even going to purchase one from them.

X2, this looks like a good investment since I've gone through 4 stock belly pans..

Forget the Panzer plate, you need brush guards! Maybe then you won't lose a bumper and a headlight. Lol jk
Looks good!

the one i have.. i have hit some CRAZY stuff.. sounds like a gunshot.. almost ripped a bolt out of it (because of the ground and not the plate) i HIGHLY recommend it... especially if you are low.. unless you want to dish out the $$$$ for a oil pan and then buying one b/c you know you need it after...

the plastic one wont protect anything more than a little bit of grime.. even then it's worthless..

just installed the evolution thor plate tonight! Ill take pictures of it tomorrow. Install was easy, except for one bolt hole in the front that didnt line up. Shouldnt cause any issues. If I ever destroy it I will be sure to buy the Panzer. From what I have read it seems to be a better fit.

Where do you get the Evolution Thor skid plates, and how much do they cost?

I'm not running a belly pan, and would like to get something sturdy for the NE winters

the only issue i see with this panzer plate... is the vents.. they are going to plow in so much snow like a fuckin cheese grader..

Evolution Thor plate here. Went on pretty easy, and has taken some abuse in the 3 weeks Ive had it.

Here is a pic of it before I put it on the car.

I'm runing a bright orange detour sign, don't have any pics of it right now though. It's not the prettiest but it gets the job done. Also makes the snow glow orange under my car in the winter lol.

Right now I have a stock plastic belly pan that has been reenforced by myself with some aluminum bar stock around the mounting points where it typically gets damaged. While we do get lots of snow in my area (NE Ohio), in the four years I've lived here I've never encountered compacted solid ice on the roads that would require an actual aluminum skid plate (due to the possibility of oil pan damage occuring). However, this year will be the first winter for me with my new shock/spring combo (Bilstein Sports with H&R Sports) and the car is quite a bit lower. So we will see. I may have to buy some sheet aluminum and make one if the stock plastic one doesn't hold up.

All of my friends up here that also DD their cars have either the stock plastic belly pan or the plastic W8 belly pan and haven't ever had any issues (even my friend with a Stage III S4 on coilovers who runs the stock belly pan).

3.175mm (.125 inches) thick for the Panzer.

4.8mm (.191 inches) thick for the Evolution Thor.

I wonder if anyone with a serious track A4 has ever fully (as much as possible) closed off the bottom of their car all together....for aerodynamic reasons. For where I live it could be a good idea....but I don't plan on lowering my car to the extent that some people here do.

I was thinking of this post the other day when I was in the snow. Please find some pics!! By any chance do you still have the pattern for the holes?

If you're tempted by the road sign route, just find a big enough one, jack up the car, and common sense will guide you through the rest.
Well, common sense should guide you through all of it, hopefully.
