Welcome. You will probably get more friendly responses when you post some of those A4 Shots.

Welcome Tim!

For those who do not know, Tim is a good friend of mine. He is my wrenching partner. Without him my A4 would not be nearly what it is today. We have talked for months about picking up a facelift A4 and doing the 12V VR6 swap into it. Last weekend on craigslist I found the perfect candidate. 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro with manual transmission popped up on the list with a "blown engine". According to the previous owner the computer told the engine to suck up the oil causing it to seize. haha... we will really see what the problem is this weekend. For $1500 you can't go wrong.

Anyways, welcome again Tim!

Here is the pic he texted me earlier today.

well I dug into it tonight, the motor was off time as I thought it would be. I tried starting it earlier and it sounded like it had no compression. I pulled the head off tonight to find the exhaust valve in cylinder 3 to be broken off and rammed into the head next to the spark plug lol

and of course pics, crappy but they do

I am going to need a new head. The cam tooth that locks the cam gear to the shaft is broken and one of the cam bearings spun and ate away at the camshaft and head

No. Plus I am doing all the work myself (with the help of some friends/employees) its not that difficult of a swap plus Im thinking that if my boss and I can fit a compound turbo'd LS2 in a volvo, we can make a VR work in an A4 lol

Maybe if you have a high end shop do everything. But, no it will not cost 20K.

Yeah i really have no clue, just had read a recent thread with that info in it ha

If your willing to spend the 20k on the swap, Do it! but just make sure you dont fuck it up and have to spend even more fixing it.

I second this... This swap cost me over 20K...

I did the full swap and made 650whp in under a month only working on it part time, and in the end looking back, i feel confident that NOBODY will get this swap done unless they have 20K disposable income, years of tig and fabricating experience, or a professional fabricator at your disposal..

I have probably said going BAT on a 1.8T costs 10K. Can it be done cheaper? Yup
