I need someones help or advice on a situation I have..I recently changed my front brake pads and installed a fresh pair of stoptech posi-quiets following one of the links on her as a DIY..everything went good but two days later I noticed that when I'm driving and I go over certain bumps in the road a high pitched squeak comes from the front wheels and I have NOO IDEAAA what's causing this because it wasn't happening before I changed the pads..does anyone know what can be causing this because I right now it's just frustrating because I have no idea what's causing this. If anyone has had this issue or know what it can be pleasee help a brother out! I know it can be the springs or struts cause mysteriously they went out after changing the pads? Idk but I need the "zine" help!

Did you put anti-squeal on the backs of the pads? It is a grease-like substance that prevents the pads from squealing. No, I am not joking.

^^^ This is not a joke like changing your blinker fluid or to check your muffler bearings, they actually sell the goo that goes on the back of the pad plating. That could be a very good reason for the squeaking. If not im out of options.

Ohh wow really? If this is actually true I really hope this is the answer to it cause it's really annoying the hell out of me lol ..where can I get my hands on this anti-squel goo?? Cause if this is true i need to put this on Asap! It goes on the back of the actual pads right?

Pretty sure you can get the anti-squeal paste at most local parts places like Kragen, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. Otherwise, I bet the dealer will sell you some for double the price.

Ohh man you guys are awesome!! Seriously lol I'm def gonna give this a shot and hope that this is the answer to that squeak...Blake, what's the actual name
Of the paste (if you know it) or do I just walk into pep boys and ask for anti-squeal paste lol

Good question. I've always heard it referred to as anti-squeal paste, but there might be a more technical term for it. I'd go in there and describe what you're looking for and see what they have.

Good call, I'm gonna head there tomorrow and try to pick some up and try it out see if that'll do the trick..def appreciate the help and I'll come back with the update to see how that went

btw just in case it was unclear before, again just in case lol, the noise is happening when i drive over bumps on the road and i am NOT applying the brake, it is just when im actually driving, applying the brake the pads are silent, so again to clear it up this is a squeaking (creeking) noise happening when i run over bumps or potholes on the road while im driving ....in case that changes anyones advice

maybe some debris is stuck there ... did u take the wheel off and inspect?. check between the dust shield and rotor ???? i had noise before from a rock getting stuck there

Hmmm... that doesn't sound like the problem is with the brakes at all, IMO. I'd guess it's suspension related based on your explanation.

make sure you didn't bend the brake dust shield while you were doing the pad replacement. Also i believe oem brake pads have the sticky stuff in the back of the brake pads. did you removed the backing plate on both side because sometime it does get stuck.

what does the brake dust shield look lke? even though i did this super careful so that nothing messed up, i just wanna double check..cause if its really the suspension that sucks (aside from it being weird) because ironically before i changed my pads that noise wasnt coming up, yet after i changed it the noise literally popped up like the day after, and its not when i brake but instead when im driving normal and go over certain bumps of potholes (which are a shit load in this shit hole of jersey)

Let us know when you figure it out, did you have to do anything special to reset the brake pad sensor?

the dust shield is the metal piece that is behind the rotors, sometime people get lazy and just leave the caliper on top of the rotor so it doesn't hang. also did you check for the backing plate of the pads? i forgot if you put oem pads or aftermarket but make sure you removed the backing plate out of the caliper because oem pads have sticky stuff on it, sometime it does get stuck on there.

still trying to pinpoint the issue but no luck yet, im really starting to sway over to it being something to do with my suspension, i just dont want to go to the dealership and have them rape me with some rediculous part i may not need...but about the brake pad sensor nothing special needed to be done, i just clipped it back onto the caliper when i finished and everything was back to normal.

yeah thats what i did i placed in on top of the caliper while i was removing the pad and putting the new one, but about the backing plate i made sure it was off so there was nothing in the caliper when i put the fresh pads in

yeah its killing me cause i have no idea what i can be, certain bumps i mean like it doesnt happen everytime i go over a pothole or a bump in the road but it happens when i go over 40% of the bumps on the road and potholes, it kind of reminds me of the sound NY taxis or taxis in general make going down the road and running over potholes (that squeak that comes out of their cars) lol as weird as that sounds thats the closest i can explain it...but yeah im from downtown jersey city, off of grove street...where in NJ you from?

I gotta go with something other then the pads. If the squeal was constant or only under braking, then I would say pads but it's happening over bumps which leads me to think it's something other then the brakes, but I could be wrong. Did you adjust the nut holding the bearings at all? Any shake or different kind of feeling while steering? Your POSITIVE that your dust cover and backing plate is secure? Calipers are all torqued to factory specs?

can you pm me your VIN? your situation is pretty odd, but just incase check if your shock is leaking, how you describe the taxi hitting pot hole is because there shock is usually worn out or blown.
by the way i'm west orange, do you have a garage and jack and jack stands? i might be able to check it out.

as for the "goo" you put on the back of the pads, theres 2 types, one is a lube that goes on the pins so they dont freeze up and/or rust, and the other is called "disc brake quiet" IIRC its basically a high temp silicone like substance that lightly glues the pads to the caliper and pistons. she squeek or squeal you get from pads is perfectly normal when you dont use the disc brake quiet and parts fit a little loosely... the pad vibrates on the rotor very quickly, similar to rubbing your finger around the top of a wine glass, only at a much higher frequency. the brake quiet absorbs these vibrations and the sticky nature of it helps hold the pads away from the rotors.
check your dust shields (the tin metal plates on the strut side of the rotor) and make sure they are not touching the rotor at any point. its very easy to bounce the inside of the wheel off one when you remove a wheel from the car... (due to it being heavier than you expect, and happening before you can counter the weight of the wheel/tire) ***this has nothing to do with being "strong" or "weak", i have done it several times knowing its heavy, and expecting it to fall even.
just in case you cant find "Disc Brake Quiet", high temp silicone gasket maker that you find in autoparts stores will work just as good.
Best of luck.

oh man if you can do that youd be the MAN! lol but unfortunately i dont have any jack stands or a garage, when i did the pad change i used my cousins garage in freehold and just used the jack from the kit in the trunk

Did you change only pads or disks too? Did you bed them? Some pads require anti-squeal paste or shims, some dont'. Read the stoptech guide for the later.

yeah i just bought the disc brake quiet paste and im gonna put it on tomorrow morning and see if that settles this issue cause its really pissing me off..METORN, i only changed the pads not the disks..after i apply the paste im gonna go for a quick ride and see if it solved the problem cause i think its kind of weird for my struts or shocks to go out only after i changed the pads, and even so, them going out this early? im only at 30k

When changing the pads only you leave behind rotors profiled by the old pads. It will require some serious bedding to blend. Very well could be the source of your squeals.
make sure you keep the "book" distance for the next 500 miles.

SO GOOD NEWS! today i decided to just say the hell with it and disassemble the pads again and apply the "disk brake quiet" goo, i took out the pads, applied the goo and let it sit for about 10-12 minutes, then i put the pads back on the caliper let it sit for another 10 minutes to let it really stick haha, then i put everything back in place...i waited about a half hour to drive and when i finally drove it, the noise was gone!! so i came to the conclusion that it was definetly the pads vibrating on the calipers that was making the noise and after taking note of it, there was noooo room between the pad and rotor before i out the goo and now there is a little space so problem has finalllyyy BEEN SOLVED!!
THANKS to all you az'ers for the help and insight! expecially A4_joe, blake P, EErie b6, and everyone else who helped out early! lets see if the results last **keeping my fingers crossed**

Okay someone f'in shoot me man!! So I'm driving today and now the noise has gone away when hitting bumps but now my front passenger brakes are squeaking like crazzyyyyy when I brake! And they're fresh "posi-quiet" pads! Aren't they supposed to be quiet?? I change them correctly, put the paste, pushed back the piston, and still! Ohh man I swear I've gotten soo frustrated with this, I knew having them be silent for more than 2 days was toooo good to be true! Plzzz someone help!

You probably didn't bed the new pads properly and they're just glazed.

I'm on my phone or I'd find the technical explanation and instructions for you. I know there's a great article all about it on Stoptech's website.

I am not a pro, but sometimes the rotors could be a little wavy. Wait for them to cool down, rub your finger on it, and if it feels wavy that means your new break pads are still taking the shape of the discs (in the meantime, they will make all kinds of noises). It is a wise idea to machine the surface of your brake discs before installing a new pair of pads.

whiny...try owning a first gen.....squeals are the least of problems
