Advance Auto Parts has a special on 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 Filter for $32.99. Which grade should I buy? I have a 1999 B5 A4 2.8L V6 Quattro, I picked up 5W-30 since that's what Jiffy Lube had given me in the past but should I switch it to 0W-40? Can I use 5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 and top it off with some LubroMoly 5W-30? Thanks for your help!

all M1 oil is fully synthetic. 0w40 is good year round oil, especially in the winter.

Look at amsoil signature series and same for filter

Service Life
AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 35,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 17,500 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).
• In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain intervals

I personally use 5-30 syn. for the 1.8t, BUT for a 2.8 I would run the 0-40.

In my high mileage car, 0w-40 is to thin and it goes around the rings because of the wear.
If you still experience oil loss/burning your best beth is to go 5w-40. I use Castrol because of it's high detergent and it keep my engine clean at affordable Syntec price.

While washing my car I noticed my car was leaking oil, I changed it with the mobil 1 5w-30 deal (got it for $17 because of my $20 autozone credit) and I'm still noticing a drop or two in my drive way the next day. Is there a common place these cars leak from that I'm unaware of, I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the filter but it is up around there. Running down the tranny and on the crossmember and the exhaust a little too. Any Ideas?

Transmission seal leak most likely. As the seal age, it get harder and shrink.

Yes in my case, 200k km+ and severe oil abuse from previous owner.

i run mobil one 10-40 in mine, but i see a decent amount of 75-85 degree days, and my oil pressure never drops under 20psi at hot idle, when i was ussing 5-30 it would drop down to around 10psi at hit idle thats why i steped up in grade

so is it cool that i use 0w-40 in a car with 120k? or should I be using another grade?

Go under the car and take some pictures, instead of speculating, we'll try to be sure it's the seals!

Will do, I just wish it wasn't such a pain to jack my low car up.

I know! In need of a low-profile jack!

I need a really good one, I have one but it's a cheapie from pep boys and it creaks when raising the car. And even with that I have to drive up on boards to get it under the jack point.
